Suggestion 5 Alim 2015 Paper 2 – Section B (Directed Writing) Essay writing should be carried out in class at least once every 2 weeks and markings by teachers should be done meticulously. Discussion on students’ errors must be highlighted on the whiteboard and copied by students as future references so as they won’t repeat the same mistakes when writing the next week. Before composing essay the next week, teacher should direct students to their previous essay to remind them of the errors they’ve committed. Hopefully it will help to minimize students’ errors. A copy of the table of tenses must be provided early in the year to students for references when composing essays. Teachers provide good and interesting sample essays to trigger students creativity in writing. Paper 1 – Section D (The Curse-Novel) Cover to cover understanding of the Novel is vital. This will prepare students to face any questions thrown to them especially in SPM examination. Sample questions in plenty should be provided to serve as practice. Students learn ways to earn easy marks. Students learnt the technique of writing in this section. SECTION B (CONTINUOUS WRITING) Students had written sample essay that they will use in the exam regardless of the topic or titles. Students just needed to memorize their essay and put any one word title or topic. PAPER 2 SECTION B (INFORMATION TRANSFER) A lot of drilling in class because this is the easiest section to obtain marks. Students just needed to be meticulous in how they transfer the information into spaces provided. Students learn different types of question in Information Transfer. Students learn vocabularies that were usually used in the questions B SECTION C ( COMPREHENSION& SUMMARY) Students were told to write any answer regardless whether they understood the question or not. They just have to lift any sentences from the paragraph because each question was based on a paragraph. As a summary part, students were asked to lift any sentence from the lines mention in the rubric. Once again students were advised not to leave any question. SECTION D (POEM) A lot of drilling and revising took place in class. Even though students were taught in class, in the end, students need to rely on their ability to comprehend the demand of each question. Failure to do so, cost some of them to fail. Throughout the beginning till the end of the year, this section proved to be very challenging not only to lower literacy and proficiency students but also those who were in 5 Alim class. SECTION C (NOVEL) We taught students to memorize the synopsis of the novel. Regardless of the question asked, students were to write what they have memorized to at least obtain more than 5/15 marks. This only applies to students who have lower literacy and proficiency levels.
