Tribal Solid Waste and Education Assistance Program
Dear Tribal Environmental Professional:
The Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals will be offering its "Developing A Tribal Integrated
Solid Waste Management Plan" course in Palms Spring, California, April 12-14, 2016, for employees of
federally-recognized tribes. This course will focus on the development of a tribal-specific Integrated Solid
Waste Management Plan and is designed for staff in the environmental, utility, and administrative fields.
The course is also of use if you are looking to revise or edit an existing solid waste management plan.
As tribes continue to develop their own capacity in the field of environmental management, the issue of
effectively managing waste becomes critically important. Furthermore, an integrated waste
management program that is planned and implemented with tribal values, can lead to cleaner and
healthier communities and environments for future generations.
The course includes classroom training, small group activities, and a waste characterization audit
conducted by environmental staff from the Santa Rosa Band of Cahuilla Indians on their land. We will be
traveling to tribal land to observe and learn how to plan, conduct and analyze a waste characterization
audit.
Please find attached, an application, course description sheet, and cancellation policy for the course.
The application is due March 11, 2016.
The course is limited to twenty participants. Additionally, ITEP will cover lodging expenses and
reimburse per diem and transportation expenses. If you plan to fly to and from Palm Springs, California
to attend the course, then you must purchase a ticket at least 14 days in advance prior to the start date
of the course.
If you are interested in applying for this course, simply fill out the application and either email or fax it to
me. Should you have any questions or require additional information, please feel free to contact me.
