Discuss student definitions and transition to assessing their prior-knowledge with:
Have several words to use for deconstruction, ask students to draw a line through the word to separate prefix from root and
suffix from root, and underline the root word.
Walk around to check comprehension
Intro (how do you capture their attention and get them interested?):
Discuss the construction of the words that are displayed for the pre-assessment, inquire as to how words change meaning based
on prefixes and suffixes. Tell students to correct their warm-up if they didn’t split the words correctly

Use PowerPoint to lecture about common prefixes and suffixes and their meaning and their connection to root words
