Here’s a little repetition:
I.


Inflection
does not result in a change of word class
Usually produces a expected change of meaning
It relates words to their context = marks relation within a syntax
grammatical morphemes (closed class morphemes)
word order
person, number, gender, tense, case etc
obligatory in a certain context
She goes to school
The main verb “go” must be inflected for subject and tense.
II.
Derivation
- used for the formation of new words by adding affixes
- change of meaning/word class is possible
- Suffixes can change the word class, prefixes can’t!
III.
Please analyse “disappointments” using a tree!
a) Name the root, prefixes and suffixes and say if the latter ones result in a
change of word class!
b) Look at the sentence a) and mark inflections!
