Goodna Update Friday 21st January 2011
INSPIRING!
The people who turn up daily at "Ground Zero " crn Layard and Bris Tce Goodna each day
are an inspiration to me . The people I meet while serving there are an inspiration to me .
The people we are serving are inspirational to me . It has been an INSPIRING week .
Reflection on first 7 days
SAUSAGES 680KG (say 18 per kg ) 12 240 sausages cooked
EGGS
50 Dozen
600 EGGS cooked
BACON 30KG
a lot of slices cooked
250 CHICKEN BURGERS cooked
600 WHOPPER BURGERS cooked
Bottled water given thousands
Soft drink given thousands
Tea and coffee hundreds
( The above figures are conservative and do not include the fruit , cakes , muffins etc etc )
The amazing thing is we did not have to purchase any whatever we needed was freely
provided at the time of need and we freely gave .
People helped ? hundreds
Volunteers directed to places ? hundreds
Inspiration ? plenty
We will again set up tomorrow Sat 22 Jan at GROUND ZERO
CAMIRA SPRINGFIELD COMMUNITY CENTRE
The Centre will remain a flood relief centre for one more week. Open tomorrow and all next week
with slightly reduced hours for the benefit of our volunteers coordinators who really have done
an amazing job along with their wonderful teams (See below).
We are not accepting any clothes or manchester but need more tooth brushes, tooth paste,
soaps, toilet paper, Shampoo and conditioners. We also need more microwaves, toasters,
jugs, Food hampers etc...We need more volunteers to help provide afternoon teas, lunches etc
for the volunteers also. If you would like to volunteer next week too please let me know.. If you know
people personally affected by the flood please do encourage them to come into our centre (389 Old
Logan Rd Camira, 3818 0921), even offer to come with them. We really want to bless them.
On Saturday 29th Jan, we are going to open up the centre for the whole community for a 3 hours
super cheap Massive Super Cheap Garage Sale with all Proceeds go to flood affected
families. All excess goods will be available to the whole community for a min donation
of 50 cents. e.g. TVs for 50c, prams 50c, bag of clothes 50c. Those able are welcome to
give larger donations, but no obligation. This will happen from 8am to 11am Sat 29th
Jan... We would love your support for this too by spreading the word to everyone and
volunteering yourself too!
SPECS
Paul Lagos from Springfield lakes Eye Care would like to help anyone free of charge who lost
or damaged their specs due to the flood . Paul is near the Bendigo Bank at Springfield Lakes
. THANKS PAUL .
PETS
Jeanette Kessells from Springfield District Vet would like to help any with pet issues due to
the flood . Jeanette is on the Crn of Springfield Parkway and Woodcrest Way . THANKS

AUSTRALIA DAY
Australia is next Wed 26 Jan . I believe we will celebrate with a sense of Pride and Humility
as we celebrate what it is to be Australian and as we reflect on the last couple of weeks .
The Bundamba Pool will have its Free BIG Splash and official opening of the extensions .
Waterworx at Springfield will have a $2 entry day .
MEDICAL CENTRES
Most medical centres in the Greater Springfield Area are extending their hour to help
residents of Goodna who surgeries went under in the flood .
CHEMIST
Bob Holland AMCAL Pharmacy at Springfield fair is happy to assist pensioners that have
been affected by the flood .
BACK TO SCHOOL HELP
If you want to help some children commence school with all the right stationery equipment
please drop of any of the following to my office and we will help our local schools supply
stationery to children in need . A4 exercise books, pencil cases, pencils (coloured), pencils HB,
rulers , safety scissors, scrapbooks, calculators, glue sticks, USB sticks, new lunch boxes, new school
bags, new drink bottles, , felt tip pens, highlighter pens. Westlife Care will distribute packs to school
principals .
CITY WIDE HELP
Call 38106666 and register your name if you want to help in Ipswich City .
HOLIDAY
Closed at $1200 at noon today . All money to Westlife Care to help victims of the Flood .
Thank you FAMILY MOTOR HOMES who also upgraded the holiday to a luxurious MERC Van .
Family Motorhomes are offering 7 calendar days holiday hire of a spacious Family

I have just returned from Ipswich City Medallion Awards , again it was inspiring to
recognise residents from all across the City of Ipswich who selflessly serve our
community . I know there are many unsung heroes in our community who serve .
To continue the momentum of rebuilding Ipswich requires inspiration . Working with
people with selfless motives teaches me many lessons and provides inspiration .
IPSWICH is rebuilding stronger than ever as a result of the selfless attitude and actions
of many .
