Yes, but the time management and communication takes effort. One practice each week and 3 required classes should enable you to continue other activities fully. 2) I live out of town, how can I participate? You will be required to be taking classes of the same type at your home studio. Dancers from Spokane, Pendleton, Walla Walla and Yakima have participated successfully on the Elite team with good organization. If at all possible it is recommended that dancers attend Elite technique classes at the Elite Dance Studio. 3) Can I miss some practices? Practices and performances are always required. Over the summer we have scheduled many open weekends for family vacations, camps and other events, any missed practice outside of these will be considered an unexcused absence. 4) Can I miss practice over Christmas break to go on vacation? For DANCE, this is our “gear up” time for Nationals and all practices are vital. We need ALL dancers at every practice over the break and we ask that parents do not schedule family vacations during the practice times. There will be no exception to this rule. 5) How do I stay informed? Parents meetings will be held (TBA), information will be available online on our new website. 6) How are finances handled? Jackie Hightower and Justin Gerg, our business managers, handles all financial matters. A financial break down will be given out to each family showing where the finances are being allocated. 7) How are unexcused absences handled? One unexcused absence will result in the dancer being taken out of a performance or event. More then one unexcused absence may result in being put in an alternate position or dismissal from the team. TEAM FUNDRAISING AND ORGANIZATION Operation and funding of the teams is divided into two parts: Team Expenses and Individual Expenses. Team expenses are basic team operation expenses and the cost is shared by all teams. We cover these expenses with team fundraising and sponsorship events. TEAM FUND RAISING IS REQUIRED. Individual Expenses are those costs incurred by each individual participant for costumes, choreography, trips to competitions, etc. These expenses are the responsibility of the individual participant. There are fund raising opportunities to help with these costs. INDIVIDUAL FUND RAISING IS OPTIONAL. ESTIMATED EXPENSES 1) Team Budget: The team has basic operating costs for items like 1st aid supplies, team bonding activities, etc. Team budget for the year is given out and discussed at the first parents meeting. All team members contribute and fund raise for team expenses equally with team fund raising events and operation fees. 2) Individual Budget: Each participant incurs expenses for competitions, travel, nationals, costumes, etc. The individual is responsible for payment of those expenses directly incurred by participation on the competition team (does not include tuition). Individual budgets are given at the first parents meetings and discussed in detail. Individual club expenses are divided into regular monthly payments made to the team. See Dance Cost sheets see estimated budgets. Individual fund raising options are given to help participants raise money towards their individual club accounts. Club Payments start July 1st with a double payment (2 months total for your team). This is followed by regular monthly payments from AugustMarch due on the first of each month. The reason for the double payment is that at the start we incur expenses for each participant very rapidly for items like dance camp, practice attire, and choreography. FUND RAISING We offer optional Individual fund raising events all year to help individual participants earn money for their costumes and trips. You can participate in as many or as few of these events as you like during the year. Team fund raisers include shows, car washes, garages sales and more. Team fund raisers are required events for all team members as each team shares in the costs of the yearly operation of the teams. Parents are expected to help with the shows and other events as coordinators and volunteers. HOW DOES IT ALL WORK? Teams are selected by audition process and notified of selection via email/mail after the audition. Parent meetings start July and the first team practices will start in August. Teams all start performing in the summer at various community events. Serious dance performances begin in the Fall. Being on the Elite team is a commitment, but the reward is well worth the effort. Successful participation is key upon good communication, parent involvement and everyone following the rules of the program. Tuition statements are separate accounts. Checks for tuition should be separate (made to Elite Dance Studio) from the E.W. Elite Dance club account payments. 9 SKILLS THAT WILL BE TESTED AT AUDITIONS: Youth: Double/ Single Pirouettes Jete/ Russian leaps High kicks/ heal stretches Chaine turns Calypso Forward Roll Hand Stand Kip Up Junior Jazz: Double/ Triple Pirouettes Fouette a la second (second turns) Various leaps Heal Stretch Calypso Junior Hip Hop: Forward Roll Hand Stand Kip Up Head Kip Up K Kick Senior Jazz: Triple/ Quad Pirouettes Various second turn combos Various leaps Heal stretch turns Calypso/ Disc leaps Senior Hip Hop: Various Kip Ups Hand Stand, forward roll Walking Hand Stands Various K Kicks 10
