Year 12 Induction - Ethos and Presentation Unit 2_1 Organisations Organisations are a collection of individuals with a common goal. Organisations can be profit or non-profit. Image An organisation’s image is their personality. Organisations use several methods to convey their image: Logos Colour schemes Fonts Pictures Layout Colours What do these colours say? Fonts What do these fonts tell you? Times New Roman Image Ethos Ethos is defined as: Culture, philosophy, The disposition, character, or fundamental values peculiar to a specific person, people, culture, or movement the distinctive character, spirit, and attitudes of a people, culture, era, etc the distinguishing character, sentiment, moral nature or guiding beliefs of a people or group noun spirit, character, attitude, beliefs, ethic, tenor, disposition, personality Ethos Here is a company that you are familiar with. Virgin is their ethos? How would you What The Virgin ethos is simple, take on the big boys and do it better. describe them? Richard Branson delights in upsetting the apple cart, and putting noses out of joint in stale boardrooms around the globe. "We look for opportunities where we can offer something better, fresher and more valuable, and we seize them. We often move into areas where the customer has traditionally received a poor deal, and where the competition is complacent." Who is this? But many years ago, one of our activists bagged a quote from another famous activist, and summed up the ******** ethos: "The optimism of the action is better than the pessimism of the thought." When we take action against environmental crimes, we also take action against despair. And there are times when inspiring other people to take action is by far the most powerful outcome that we could hope for. Who is this? We believe that we’re on the face of the Earth to make great products. We believe in the simple, not the complex. We believe that we need to own and control the primary technologies behind the products we make. We participate only in markets where we can make a significant contribution. We believe in saying no to thousands of projects so that we can really focus on the few that are truly important and meaningful to us. We believe in deep collaboration and cross-pollination of our groups, which allow us to innovate in a way that others cannot. We don’t settle for anything less than excellence in every group in the company, and we have the self-honesty to admit when we’re wrong and the courage to change.
