Plagiarism
• Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work
as if it were your own, whether you mean to
or not (University of Wellington).

• Do not depend solely on Turnitin
• Check ProQuest Dissertations and Theses,
Google
• Download the PDF document
• Type the suspected sentence in Box “Find”
• The copied sentence will be highlighted in
yellow.

• The copied reference not listed in bibliography
• Content of a chapter lacks of continuity with the
preceding chapter
• Good quality comprehension in Chapter
Literature Review but weak in Chapters

• Just to get over with the study for a more
promising venture

• There is not short-cut in doing PhD research.
• Be honest
• Academic integrity means that university staff
and students, in their teaching and learning, are
expected to treat others honestly, fairly and with
respect at all times (University of Wellington).
• Academic integrity is important because it is the
core value on which the University’s learning,
teaching and research activities are based

You can learn how to avoid plagiarism by
brushing up on some key skills, such as:
• note taking
• summarising
• paraphrasing
• referencing
• citing sources.
