THE COST OF DISCIPLESHIP PT.2
B. The Second Condition involves Counting the Cost beforehand.
1. “For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and
_____ the cost, whether he has enough to finish it lest, after he has laid the
foundation, and is not able to finish….” Lk12:28-29a
2. “The gold for things of gold and the silver for things of silver, and for all
kinds of work to be done by the hands of craftsmen. Who then is _______ to

We do not follow blindly, His requirements are clear. He wants us to look
the issue square in the face. He wants deliberate disciples, not disciples by
force.
4. “After these things He went out and saw a tax collector named ____,

up, and followed Him.” Lk5:27-28
5. “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you
present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your

God never hesitated to challenge those who follow Him with challenges that
require a price to be paid.
It cost Abraham the willingness to offer his own son.
6. “For Sarah _________ and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set
time of which God had spoken to him. And Abraham called the name of his
son who was born to him-whom Sarah bore to him-Isaac. Gen21:2-3
7. “Now it came to pass after these things that God ______ Abraham, and
said to him, ‘Abraham! And he said, ‘Here I am.” Then He said ‘Take now
your son, you only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah,
and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I

built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son
and laid him on the altar, upon the wood. And Abraham stretched out his

It cost Daniel being cast to lions

shall be cast into the den of lions. Now O king establish the decree and sign
the writing, so that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes
and Persians, which does not ____. Therefore King Darius signed the

17. “Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home.
And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt
down on his knees three times that day and prayed and gave thanks before

It cost Paul his head on a chopping block.
18. “But you be watchful in all things, endure affliction, do the work of an

It cost Jesus, a cruel death on the cross.

Anyone can stand and sing “Jesus Loves Me“, but it takes a courageous soul
to follow Him, without regard to cost.
21. “Who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and
supplications, with ________ cries and tears to Him who was able to save
Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, though He was a
Son, yet he learned obedience by the things which He suffered.” Heb5:7-8

It’s going to cost you something. Are you willing to pay the price. He never
promised the Christian life would be free of difficulties, but he did promise;
23. “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In
the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have ________
