Dear Northview Families,
As you may have noticed, our school wide theme this year is “Super heroes.”
Classrooms and hallways throughout our building are decorated and adorned with all
types of super heroes, ranging from the animated characters of the “Super Why”
program to the bulging muscles of the Incredible Hulk. One of our slogans is
“Reading gives us super powers,” and the children are excited about all of our super
hero activities.
As Veteran’s Day approaches, teachers and staff at Northview would like to
help the children understand the difference between the fictional super heroes we
have enjoyed here at school and the real life heroes that work hard each day to
keep us safe and free as citizens of the United States of America. For this reason,
Northview School will be sponsoring a “Hero Day” in conjunction with our Veteran’s
Day studies. We have registered with Herobox.org to show our support for a troop
of service men and women who are currently deployed and serving in Afghanistan.
Each classroom at Northview will collect donations for their Hero box, and
all items will be shipped to Afghanistan during the week of November 9. The list
below shows a number of items that would help make the lives of our deployed
service men and women a little easier. The items they receive, along with colored
pictures, drawings, and letters written by our children will remind our real life
heroes of the importance of their task, and will let them know that they are
appreciated and held in the highest regard by the people back home.
Participation in the Hero box program is completely voluntary. We
appreciate any donations of items that you may wish to send, and will happily
include any letters, drawings, and/or pictures your families may create at home.
The items listed below are items that are typically requested by deployed troops,
and our adopted troop specifically requests coffee and Cliff Bars/Power Bars. If
you are unable to shop, but would like to donate a few dollars, the money would be
put towards the cost of postage required to send our Hero boxes.
