to describe the problems the Earth is facing because of pollution
to participate in the discussion on the protection of the Earth
to describe the school entrepreneurship, international project "Earth
Day Groceries Project"
to describe the process of creating “the Tree of wisdom”
to deliver decorated paper bags to the store Boso
- to adopt the vocabulary to describe the planets of the solar system
- to listen to the "Earth Song" by Michael Jackson with understanding
- to explain the importance of international online project "Earth Day Groceries
Project"
- to indicate the need to preserve and protect the planet earth (4R = Recycle,
Reduce, Reuse, Repair)
- to watch and understand the insert from the American series: "COSMOS: A
SPACE TIME ODYSSEY " (written by American physicist N. Tyson, from a
screenplay by Carl Sagan, 29: 50-40: 04)
Materials needed:
Black board, notebook, computer + projector, multimedia CD-ROM, the image of
the planets of the solar system, the video "Earth Song" by Michael Jackson,
episodes of scientific series "Cosmos: A Space Time Odyssey"; for “the Tree of
wisdom”: metal bar, wire, adhesive tape, newspapers and old, thrown books;
For the project "Earth Day Groceries Project" paper bags from the grocery store.
Teaching methods:
Reading, writing, answering the questions, watching and listening to a music
video, watch the clip from scientific episode by Carl Sagan, complete, join, listen
with comprehension.
Civic education: The economic dimension – to show the initiative and describe
the need to preserve national wealth; Environmental dimension – to explain the
right to have a healthy environment and sustainable development of the
country.
Activities for students:
Creating “the Tree of Wisdom”, shooting phases of the project; reading, writing,
answering the questions, watching and listening music video "Earth Song" by
Michael Jackson, watching the clip from scientific episode of "Cosmos: A Space
Time Odyssey" by Carl Sagan, completing, joining, listening with understanding;
Decorating paper bags and writing ecological messages.

Development process:
Introduction (10 min)
As an introduction to the lesson the teacher checks homework, students had to
draw a sketch for Earth Day.
Then the teacher writes on the board the title Happy Birthday, Planet Earth and
students state respectively planets of the solar system, looking at the image.
Working out (30 min):
The teacher writes on the board "Please help! I'm in danger! "; The teacher
introduces students to the issues of pollution and environmental protection
asking questions:
Are you a friend of the Earth?
What do people do to hurt the Earth?
How can we protect our planet?
"Earth Song" by Michael Jackson (the students listen to the song with
understanding) (6:42)
The teacher introduces the students with the abbreviation 4RS and writes on
the board:
4R = Recycle, Reduce, Reuse, Repair (students have to translate)

Evaluation tasks:
Four Simple Steps
Elaborate:
1 Borrow. (Contact a local grocery store that uses large paper grocery bags.)
2 Decorate. (Have students at school decorate the bags with pictures of the earth,
environmental messages, the name of your school, etc.)
3 Deliver. (A couple of days before Earth Day you and/or your students return the
decorated bags to the grocery store.)
4 Report. (All reports will be posted on the Earth Day Groceries www site at:
http://www.earthdaybags.org )
Students of the 7th grade write an essay about the "Earth Day Groceries Project"
and the students of 5th and 6th grade write dictation about the project.

additional English language teaching.
