Statistical analysis [showed that] the students who took the voluntary support activities had markedly higher grades in CHEM 1A than those who did not. Due to those results, all CHEM 1A students must now enroll in lecture, laboratory and a mandatory discussion section now receiving 5 units for the class instead of the typical 4…. It is important for Chemistry and CNAS to be able to justify the addition of the extra unit as important to the success of the CHEM 1A students.
