NCIETM 2016, November 17 – 19
Enhancing National Competitiveness: Role of Industrial Engineering and
Technology Management
At
National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai, India
Welcome to NCIETM 2016
Industrial Engineering is an extensive field of study consisting of diverse scientific disciplines
with interfaces to various fields of study of science, engineering and management. With the
help of mathematical models, computer simulations, and heuristics it helps to optimise
processes in both production and services sectors across all industry verticals. If one
characteristic of Industrial Engineering has to be picked up for special mention, then it is the
capability of the Industrial Engineer to integrate the contributions of all other engineering
disciplines into a final, functional and marketable product, at the lowest possible cost, by using
system knowledge and understanding. Thus it is industrial engineering which when practised
with all the right principles it is endowed with, helps enhance the competiveness of firm in
particular and the industry in general. Similarly, Technology Management plays a key role in
national competitiveness by giving a country a competitive edge via deliberating on all three
critical value dimensions - Creating, Capturing, and Delivering value through technology. It
lays emphasis on technology as the core differentiator for the organisation and identifies paths
to leverage the knowledge of both intangible and tangible products and processes to improve
organisation’s performance through building identification, implementation and
commercialization capabilities and competencies in the dynamic environment.
These two areas seem to aptly complement each other in the latest business paradigm such as
new start-up ventures which combine innovative ideas and technologies with convertible
products and services having continually measurable and hence improvable performances
much to the delight of customers.
Understanding the growing importance of Industrial Engineering and Technology
Management, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai announces three
days’ National Conference on Industrial Engineering and Technology Management (NCIETM)
1
on November 17 – 19, 2016. The theme of the conference is on “Enhancing National
Competitiveness: Role of Industrial Engineering and Technology Management”.
