Where can students/advisers find information? Who can help students/advisers? WELCOME TO THE ADVISING COMMUNIT Y. Who is from a community college? from U of Washington? other? T H I S S L I D E I S A D D E D , B A S E D O N C O N V E R S AT I O N AT T H E C O N F E R E N C E UW Admissions – CADR: requires two year s in high school or two quar ters in college (i.e. complete level two in a language) Graduate from UW: level three (3 rd yr high school, or 3 rd qtr college) is required for degrees in these colleges: Ar ts & Sciences, Education, Social Work Both of these are considered completed if students meet the UW definition of “native language” (studied in that language up through 7 th grade), or, students can contact Admissions Of fice for testing. AA -DTA allows 5 credits of fir st year foreign language in Humanities categor y. What happens to those credits? If students study in the colleges of Arts & Sciences, Education or Social Work , AND they are using this language to meet their graduation foreign language requirement, those credits will go towards foreign language rather than VLPA (they’ll now need more VLPA credits). If they do not use this language towards an FL graduation requirement (because it is their third language or studying in a different college), than per the DTA, advisers at UW can count those 5 credits for VLPA. EXCEPT: this is not allowed by the College of Engineering, due to national engineering accreditation standards. NO, but it’s nice to have.
