Rev.19:10 For the substance (essence) of the truth revealed by Jesus is the spirit of all prophecy [the vital breath, the inspiration of all inspired preaching and interpretation of the divine will and purpose, including both mine and yours]. Amplified Watchmen THAT SEE… • This week we will continue to look and see what God’s individual createdresponsibility for every one look like, and how to take that up in effective prayer and action without criticizing others! Watchmen THAT look will SEE and prophecy… DEFINITION OF PROPHECY: The gift of prophecy is the supernaturally imparted ability to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit and speak God’s mind or counsel. (Derek Prince) PURPOSE OF PROPHECY: • To EDIFY: to build up, strengthen, make more effective • To EXHORT: to stimulate, encourage, admonish • To COMFORT: to cheer up. Prophecy overcomes two of Satan’s most common attacks: CONDEMNATION & DISCOURAGEMENT. Watchmen THAT look will SEE and prophecy… • All prophecy comes from God through the Holy Spirit, but it operates differently in different people. –Nataf - 'to let drop like rain'. –Massa - 'hand of the Lord' that releases the 'burden of the Lord'. –Nabiy - 'flowing forth' or 'bubbling forth like a fountain'. What is a prophet? THE PURPOSE OF THIS SERIES IS NOT TO FOCUS ON TRYING TO BE PROPHETIC BUT RATHER STEPPING INTO THE LIGHT OF GOD’S WORD TO SHOW A SIMPLE PATH WAY TO ENCOUNTER GOD AND MAKE HIM KNOWN • Training prophets will have you end up with a nonprofitable organization. • Training lovers/seekers after God will produce a passionate PERSEVERING people consumed to please their God alone, prophesying His Word without fear of man. What is a prophet? • A nabiy prophet is a person who speaks on behalf of a superior. Biblical prophets spoke on behalf of God, their superior. • Abraham (Gen.20:17), Moses (Dt.34:10). He planted His Word in their hearts and mouths and they in turn declared it to the people. What is a seer? • Within the overall realm of the prophet lies the particular and distinctive realm of the SEER. • All true seekers are prophets, but not all prophets are seers. • The Old Testament uses 2 words to refer to a seer: – Ra'ah literally means 'to see' particularly in the sense of seeing visions. Also 'to gaze' or 'to look upon' and 'to perceive'. (VERB) – Chozeh literally means 'a beholder in vision' and can also be translated as 'gazer'. (PERSON) Understanding the prophetic anointing in the Bible • The prophecies of the Old Testament foreshadowed Christ. • The prophecies of the New Testament had always to declare that in Christ all the prophecies of the Bible have been fulfilled. The NEED for the prophetic anointing is to FULFILL God’s purposes • FRESH OIL - Ps 92:10 - to fulfill that which the Lord has already spoken of so clearly. • YOKE BE BROKEN - Is.10:17… burdens are removed and yokes are broken and destroyed so the word the Lord has spoken can be fulfilled. • HEALING - Acts 10:38….the anointing carries the power to do good and bring healing, fulfilling Christ’s commandment to His disciples. Dreamers / Visionaries – Joseph/Daniel Proclaim Corporate Purpose – Rick Joyner Proclaim God’s heart standards - Holiness Proclaim social responsibilities/actions Administrative rulers – Moses/Joseph VARIATIONS OF PROPHETIC GRACE 6. Worshipers ushering in manifested presence of God • Area of release – Under their leadership the gifts of the Holy Spirit flow and operate more freely. – Corporate: Help lift others into God’s presence where change occurs inside them. – Personal: Deliverance from bondage/evil (David when playing for Saul). • Purpose – Release people into the liberty of expressing their love for God and receiving God’s love. • Examples: Jason Upton / Misty Edwards / Ruth Fazal and of course: King David! VARIATIONS OF PROPHETIC GRACE 7. Prophetic intercessors • Area of release – Receives a burden from God that releases intercession that can affect individuals, communities, cities and even nations. – Strong prophetic spirit to endure in extended times of prayer. Perseverance in prayer even when much time goes by without answer/breakthrough. • Purpose – Endurance. The anointing for prophetic intercession imparts the grace to endure. – Encourage. To encourage the hopeless, prevent disappointment & discouragement to the point of giving up. – Surrender. You don't just pray TO God, you learn to pray the prayers OF God! • Examples: Daniel (Babylon). Anna (temple). VARIATIONS OF PROPHETIC GRACE 8. Spirit-bearers • All are called to carry the presence of God and walk in the fullness of Scripture. • Some people just seem to effortlessly overflow with the presence God and the leading of the Holy Spirit. • Area of release: – Personal: Spending time with such a person often clarifies things in you own life. – Corporate: Such a person reminds of and restores hopes and dreams of God in the lives of people they themselves have given up on. • Purpose: – Stir up a holy desire to press in to know the purposes of God – Refreshes the weary to persevere and continue in what they know is right. – Provoke and stir a hunger after the Word & intimacy with God. VARIATIONS OF PROPHETIC GRACE 9. Prophetic counselors • Area of release – Combine pastoral caring & healing with the prophetic. – Often operates in Spirit of counsel & understanding (Is.11:2) – Also display gifts of healing and discerning of spirits. – Primary concern is not the big picture, but the wholeness of the internal affairs of men and women on a personal or family basis. • Purpose – Help those struggling to have a breakthrough, and to pinpoint the problem. – Ability to listen help others quiet their soul and ease their hearts, releasing condemnation, burdens and guilt. • Examples: John & Paula Standford VARIATIONS OF PROPHETIC GRACE 10. Prophetic equippers • Area of release – This is a prophet/teacher combination, having a special grace for equipping others. – Live and listen: Some may perform their ministry primarily through modeling, without significant involvement in individuals’ lives. Others learn by listening to them as they speak. – Direct interaction: They possess the teaching grace with a prophetic flare that enables them to explain to others the ways of the Spirit making it practical, relatable & understandable. VARIATIONS OF PROPHETIC GRACE 10. Prophetic equippers • Purpose –Their call and desire is for the discipling of other believers with a particular burden for multiplication through mentoring, which is much needed today. • Examples: Dr Bill Hamon, Derek Prince. VARIATIONS OF PROPHETIC GRACE 11. Prophetic writers • Prophetic writing is just important as speaking/ proclaiming/declaring. • Area of influence – Have a revelatory anointing. – Express it in printed form God’s heart to contemporary society e.g. magazines, newspapers, books etc. (Not always very social). • Purpose – To make known the heart of God for a certain season to a specific group of people. • Example: Gene Edwards VARIATIONS OF PROPHETIC GRACE 12. Prophetic evangelists • Area release: – Public and private. Streets, stadiums, neighbourhoods, health clubs, the train/bus, petrol station, anywhere, everywhere. – Not necessarily preaching to thousands - often touching lives of one or two people at a time. • Purpose: – Reaching out with love and hope of gospel in practical ways where the everyday believer do not pitch. – Integrate normal life and Christian life as if it is one in practical ways others can easily follow. • Examples: – Heidi Baker, MES Bellville, Building houses. POISON & ANTIDOTE • WATCH OUT FOR POISON IN YOUR OWN HEART, confess…… – Covetousness/greed/envy. – Comparing ourselves to others. – Wanting what they have produces death in reaching the purposes of God in our lives. – Do not judge/elevate yourself above another’s person or how God uses them. – Avoid jealousy and insecurity because your gifting differs from another/prominent person. POISON & ANTIDOTE PRAY FOR GOD’S ANTIDOTE TO RULE YOUR LIFE…. • Walk in accountability with others. • Cultivate faithfulness while giving ourselves to the unique expression of grace that God has imparted to each of us. • Do not be hindered by rejection, criticism, legalistic traditions and the restrictive yokes and molds of others' unrealistic/unbiblical expectations. • Ask the Holy Spirit to help and liberate us all to be unique and varied expressions of His wonderful prophetic presence and yet walk cautiously with integrity within the Church.
