What is ATP?
• ATP stands for Adenosine triphosphate.
• It is the biological energy found in all living cells.
• ATP is used as an indicator for cleanliness.
• Light output is measured by reader in Relative
Light Units (RLU’s).
• ATP on a surface = cleanliness of a surface.
Why Do We Test for ATP?
• Bacteria, yeast and molds;
pathogens: Listeria, E. coli,
Salmonella.
• The cleaner the surface, the
less likely it is contaminated
with spoilage organism or
pathogens.
