Mathematics Department Word of the Week for Week 4 “Perpendicular”
How can we work out the gradients of lines which are perpendicular to lines with gradients 1.5, 0 and -2?
We have been made aware of the existence of the following website: www.younow.com
. It is a new social media site that allows people of all ages to watch other people sleeping in their beds at night (amongst other things).
Viewers are then invited to message those very people. They are also invited to appear on the site themselves. It seems to be becoming the latest internet craze, and we strongly encourage you to be vigilant. It hasn’t hit the headlines yet, but it’s probably only a matter of time before it does.
As ever, we always strongly advise parents to closely monitor children’s use of social media / games etc. In particular, we recommend not allowing them to be online late at night (certainly after 10pm), and to be ‘off-line’ at least an hour before they intend to sleep. We also believe they should not have any electronic devices in their rooms throughout the night. The unsupervised presence of such things is a frequent and well-documented source of trouble.
As ever, I am very happy to discuss these issues at any point.
