Select Media, Materials, and Methods Plate Tectonics Note Worksheet Part 1 & 2 Plate Tectonics Vocabulary Worksheet Plate Tectonics Study Guide Worksheet Plate Tectonics Reinforcement Worksheet Pencil Plate Tectonics Powerpoint Utilize Media, Materials, and Methods 1) Students will know the cause and effects of plate tectonics on the Earth’s surface. 2) Students will know the multiple layers relating to plate tectonics. 3) Students will know the multiple vocabulary words and be able to identify their meanings that are associated with plate tectonics. 4) Students will know how plate tectonics work causing the Earth’s surface to shift. 5) Students will know how to identify the different types of plate boundaries. 6) Students will know facts about the continental drift. 7) Students will know facts about sea floor spreading. Required Learner Participation The teacher will first begin the lesson with the plate tectonics power point slides. While the teacher is discussing with the students, the students will be taking notes on the notes worksheet part one and two that is handed out by the teacher. These notes will help them learn more information about plate tectonics. The power point is based around the questions in the notes worksheets. At the end of the power point, the teacher will ask questions related to the power point to make sure the students were paying attention to assess their knowledge. Activity One: Plate Tectonics Vocabulary Worksheet During this activity, the students will cut out the definitions and then glue the correct definitions to the appropriate vocabulary term. The students will take home the Plate Tectonics study guide worksheet and the Plate Tectonics reinforcement worksheet to complete as homework. This assignment should only take about 15 minutes for each worksheet. The time for the practice is separate from the time spent in class on the lesson. The teacher will review with the students the vocabulary worksheet to see if they placed the correct definitions in the correct slots. The teacher will then ask the essential questions from the power point and the note worksheets to see what the students’ findings were. The teacher will ask the students to put their findings in complete sentences. Evaluate & Revise Student Performance: Informal: The teacher will observe the students by walking around the room and asking the class key essential questions. The essential questions will be used to obtain the students knowledge and to check for understanding. Formal: The teacher will use the vocabulary worksheet as a during the class activity to observe the students knowledge. The teacher will assign the students to complete the study guide and reinforcement worksheet at home as a homework assignment. Media Effectiveness: Instead of using just a normal Powerpoint slide, the teacher turns the slide into an interactive powerpoint slide. This will help the teacher to evaluate the students’ attention awareness to see if they are engaged with the activity or not. Instructor Performance: The teacher will evaluate herself by checking to see if all of the objectives have been met. The teacher will also grade herself by grading the students’ work and averaging those grades to get the average for the assignment. The teacher will record this average into her excel average grade book for each assignment in the classroom.
