Political Beliefs/Political Spectrum
Today, we will be looking at where you stand
on the political spectrum by using a series of
online quizzes to gauge your beliefs. Do not
worry if the quizzes give different results, as
some focus on economic issues, others on
social issues, and some combine both.
YOU MAY TYPE YOUR ANSWERS INTO THE SHEET AND PRINT OUT WHEN FINISHED.
1. How do you identify yourself today? Are you a Republican/Democrat?
Conservative/Liberal? Explain. (note: it is okay if you are not sure...)
2. Go to http://www.idealog.org/en/quiz. Take the political ideology quiz. Where did you
fall on their grid? How close were you to your prediction? What characterizes people
within this ideology (need tutorial information to answer this question)?
3. Go to http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz. Take their political spectrum quiz. Where
did you fall on Social Issues? Economic Issues? On the overall spectrum? What
characteristics are true of people falling into this category?
4. Go to http://www.people-press.org/typology/quiz/. Take the “political typology” quiz.
Where did you fall on their scale? How is this group described by the results? How did
this group vote in the 2012 election?
5. Go to http://www.people-press.org/quiz/political-typology/results/ and
http://www.people-press.org/2014/06/26/the-political-typology-beyond-red-vsblue/. Describe each of the typologies based upon the interactive and the article.
6. Go to http://www.people-press.org/2014/06/26/typology-comparison/. Describe the
key demographic breakdowns and select a minimum of 6 issues to compare among the
groups.
7. Look back at the results of your four quizzes. Do any of the results surprise you? If so,
why?
8. Now that you’ve taken several quizzes on Republican views v. Democrat views and
Conservatism v. Liberalism in both social and economic senses, briefly describe some of
the characteristics of each view/ideology.
