Quiz #2 study guide

our reading assignments to date.
• You will not be allowed to use your book
on the quiz.
• Study the bolded words.
• Short answer and essay responses.
Textbook exercises
• These exercises focus on the key concepts our
readings have covered so far.
• In completing these exercises, you’re practicing
the ways in which you might think about your
team presentation’s problem(s).
• Work in groups of 3-4.
• For each exercise, write a response as
appropriate. For some exercises, you will need
to answer in complete sentences. For some,
you will be creating a chart.
Textbook exercises

document with all names written on the top.
• This document will be graded as a 20-point

Tone group activity
• On the next slide, we’ll consider a hypothetical
problem that could arise in a workplace
environment. For this activity, you will need to
imagine how you might respond to the problem.
• Each group will be assigned a different tone.
• In your group, draft a brief response (one
paragraph) to the hypothetical situation using
your assigned tone.
Hypothetical situation
• You’ve just spent a long morning working on a
strenuous project. Your boss has been all over
you, and you need a few minutes of peace and
quiet. Thankfully, your favorite lunch—a BLT on
Texas Toast—is waiting for you in the office
refrigerator. When you go to get it, though, you
are flabbergasted to find that your lunch is not
there. You look across the lunch room to see
the new guy throwing your empty brown lunch
bag away and wiping mayo from the corner of
his mouth. You approach him to say something
…
Tone group activity
• Now write your one-paragraph response.
Make sure you stick to your assigned tone.
• Share.
• After we’ve shared, let’s consider the
consequences of each tone. That is, once
the conversation about your missing BLT
has taken place, what are the results of
what you’ve said and how you’ve said it?
Reading strategies – critical viewing
• Watch “The Surplus,” an episode from the
fifth season of The Office.
• As you watch the episode, take notes on
everything you see that is related to our
course’s content.
• Be prepared to share.
Reading strategies – critical viewing
• Some questions to get your mind working
in the right direction:
– What is the problem?
– What are the conflicts among the
stakeholders?
– What complications arise?
– Who makes the final decision?
– What factors contribute to the final decision?
Homework, report
• There is no homework or report this week.
