DIGITAL ART COMPETITION What do I need to do? If you are a primary school-aged student, create a digital artwork using template below. Your digital artwork should convey ‘SAVING TIME’ and be contained within the outline of the attached template. The ‘hand’ image can be re-sized. Do you get tired of waiting with your hands up in the classroom? Now you can have the ‘handsdown’ device which means you can keep working whilst still letting your teacher know that you need attention. A class set of Handsdown is available to the winning student and school. Closes 5:00pm AEST 28 Juneth , 2012 How? Use the template below and copy this into your digital art program. Create a digital artwork that meets the competition criteria. When creating your artwork think about: viewpoint e.g. from above, oblique, intimate, broad, ground level lighting e.g. dramatic, soft, from single or multiple light sources colour eg monochrome, saturated, realistic, subjective, harmonious, contrasting composition e.g. single focus, busy, balanced, asymmetrical Technical specification In order for your entry to accepted it must meet the following specifications. Your entry must be: no larger than 6mB in jpg or gif format Remember Your artwork must not contain any identifiable product or product logo. Entries which contain examples of plagiarism or violation of copyright will not be eligible for judging. There are a number software programs that support the .jpg and .gif file formats. The artist statement and JPG or GIF image can then be sent to : competition@handsdown.com.au Terms and conditions of the competition are also attached. Judges' decisions are final. Winners will be announced via www.handsdown.com.au website and contacted via return email. Artist Statement An Artist Statement needs to be submitted with each entry. This statement gives the artist an opportunity to present his or her thoughts on how and why the particular work was created. It increases an audience’s appreciation of the artwork and provides the artist with an opportunity to put his or her thoughts into words. This form must be completed by all students entering the competition. Please note: Once the Artist Statement form has been completed and contains all necessary signatures, it must to be submitted with the entry via email to competition@handsdown.com.au Full student names are required in this Artist Statement. Copyright To comply with the rules of this competition, the source of all elements of the entry including any images or text must be not be copyright restricted. Terms and Conditions This document sets out the terms of participation in the 2012 Handsdown Digital Art Competition (Primary) 1. The promoters of this Competition are Handsdown 12 Joiner Street, Williamstown Victoria Australia 3016. 2. Entry to the Competition is open to all Australian primary school-aged students. Students may enter as individuals or as a team and must not be a company or organisation. Employees of the Promoters and any person associated with the Competition, and any organisation or individual associated with the provision of the prize(s), are not eligible to enter. 3. All winning entrants, any person appearing in, or contributing to the production of an entry, the parent/caregiver of entrants, any person appearing in, or contributing to the production of an entry and the school Principal (or delegate) will be required to sign the Permission to Publish proforma. These forms will be emailed upon notification and returned to Handsdown. 4. The completed Artist Statement must be emailed with the entry. 5. Each entry must be entered in accordance with these Terms and Conditions. By entering the Competition, each entrant agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. The Promoters may at their discretion refuse to award any prize to any entrant who fails to comply with these Terms and Conditions. All relevant instructions on the Promoters’ website (if any) form part of these Terms and Conditions. 6. Entry into the Competition is free. 7. Competition opens at 9:00 am AEST on 28 January 2012 and closes at 5:00 pm AEST on 28th June 2012. (“Competition Period”). Any entry received after the expiry of the Competition Period will be deemed invalid. No responsibility is accepted for late, lost, delayed or misdirected entries. 8. To enter the Competition, you must: (i) produce one digital artwork entry in accordance with clause 11 (“Work”); (ii) comply with the technical requirements (iii) submit your entry via email to competition@handsdown.com.au 9. You must not submit more than one entry to each Competition. 10. All entries become the property of the Promoters and will not be returned to the entrants. 11. Entries which contain examples of plagiarism or violation of copyright will not be eligible for judging. 12. Student names must not appear as text or images anywhere in the Work. 13. The Work must not contain inappropriate language, gratuitous violence, sexual references or statements that promote hatred towards an individual, race, or community. 14. By submitting your Work to the Promoters, you grant the Promoters and their licensees and assignees a non-exclusive licence to exercise all rights in perpetuity throughout the world in your Work and all other material provided by you to the Promoters pursuant to this Competition at any time. All other rights will remain with the entrant/s. 15. Without limiting the rights granted to the Promoters under clause 14, you acknowledge the Promoters may exercise the non-exclusive right throughout the world to communicate your Work in whole or in part to the public on any media platform. 17. You acknowledge that the Promoters may allow users to view, reproduce, download and otherwise deal in the copyrights attached to and embodied in your Work. The Promoters aim to ensure that any use of your Work not authorised by the Promoters will not occur, however you acknowledge that they are not equipped with mechanisms to prevent unauthorised use of your Work, and you accept that, to the extent allowable under the law, the Promoters have no liability to you for how the end user elects to use your Work, and as such it may be permanently stored, reproduced, copied, distributed or the like, without recourse or remedy against the Promoters. 18. The entrants whose Work is judged by the Promoters’ panel of judges to be the most original and creative will be deemed the winner (“Winner”). Chance plays no part in determining the prize winners. 20. The prizes are as follows: the Winner’s school will one class set of Handsdown. 21. No component of the prize can be transferred or redeemed for cash. 23. You warrant that: (i) all details provided with your entry are true and accurate; (ii) you have all necessary rights and licences to grant the rights set out in these Terms and Conditions; (iii) your Work is your original work and has not been previously communicated to the public; (iv) your Work does not contain any identifiable product or product logo; (v) you are the copyright owner or authorised licensor of all copyright works and subject matter comprising your Work. (vi) the exercise of the rights granted to the Promoters in these Terms and Conditions will not infringe the rights of any third parties; (vii) you will indemnify the Promoters against any loss or damage resulting from any breach of these warranties. 24. You acknowledge that the Promoters are under no obligation to exercise any of the rights granted to it by these Terms and Conditions, and providing downloads and any communication of your Work to the public by the Promoters is at the complete discretion of the Promoters. 25. You agree that the Promoters may use your entry and any personal details provided to the Promoters for any promotional, marketing and publicity purposes of the Promoters in any media without notice and without any fee being paid to you. 26. Decisions of the Promoters and its panel of judges are final and will be binding on each person who enters the Competition and no correspondence will be entered into. The name of the winner and the school/city/town/suburb in which he/she attends/lives will be announced on www.handsdown.com.au 27. If there is any event that prevents or hinders the Promoters’ conduct of the Competition or the Promoters’ ability to deliver the prize/s to the prize winner/s of the Competition, the Promoters may, in their discretion, cancel the Competition and recommence it at another time under the same conditions or select another winner. 28. The Promoters are not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, or for any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilised in this Competition, or for any technical error that may occur in the course of the administration of this Competition. The Promoters assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to or alteration of entries. 29. To the full extent permitted by the law, the Promoters will not be liable for any injury, damages, expenses, or loss whatsoever (whether direct or consequential) to persons or property as a result of any person entering into the Competition or accepting or using any prize, including without limitation non-receipt of any prize or damage to any prize in transit.
