Guide to Solar Kids Activities DC SUN recently held a community fair and we had a number of kids activites. Kids activities are a great way to keep the whole family engaged in and learning about solar energy. Some options for activities include: Face painting o You can let kids choose from a few designs (predrawn on a piece of paper at your booth), or let them suggest their own ideas. We had lots of requests for superhero or animal masks. o If you’re feeling confident with your art skills, a kit like this lets you paint with brushes. Less sure of your ability to create a masterpiece? We also had some face painting crayons that were easier to use. Coloring o You can find pre-made solar-themed coloring books by Googling “solar coloring book.” We found an excellent PDF of solar themed sheets here. Musical “Suns” o A twist on the traditional musical chairs game, we created a set of large laminated suns cut out of orange tag board. Kids could walk around the circle of suns while the music played and then sit down on the suns when it stopped. Solar-powered Fountain o Our solar powered fountain in a kiddie pool was really popular. Kids could play in the pool, as well as stand in front of the panel and watch the fountain stop. o We purchased a solar fountain kit from here. Sun printing o Sun printing kits contain photosensitive paper that change colors when exposed to light. Kids can place natural objects on their print to create a relief of the object. o We found a sun printing kit with refills that worked very well.
