TRIP TO CHINA-BURMA BORDER
(KACHIN INTERNALLY DISPLACED /REFUGEE IN CHINA-BURMA BORDER)
OBJECTIVES:
This trip is to minister the lives of Kachin people in suffering through the ministry of the Word
of God and the manifestation God’s love in action through food, shelter, medicine, clothing etc.
TARGETED MINISTRIES AREAS:
Kachin Internal Displaced People in Kachin state (Sino-Burma Border): Since June 9, 2012,
the fighting has spread to several parts of Townships in Kachin State and northern Shan State,
with systematic torture, killing, and rape by Burmese troops. As fighting escalated between
Burmese government forces and Kachin Independent Army, more than 75, 000 civilians Kachin
civilians fled from the Burmese military’s tortures, interrogations and forced labors as porters,
are sheltering in Kachin Independence Organization ( KIO) controlled areas, which are located
China-Burma. There are currently about 75,000 internally displaced people living in 53 Camps
in the Kachin Independent Organization’s controlled zone.
Kachin Refugee fleeing into China: The Fighting between Myanmar government forces and
Kachin opposition forces continues, and has forced up to 10,000 Kachin people to cross the
Chinese border into Yunnan province but are finding Chinese authorities unwilling or unable to
provide them with adequate access to basic supplies, including clean water, food and shelter.
The Chinese government has authorized a small number of local NGOs and church groups to
operate along the border, but continues to block international aid or monitors from entering the
region and refuses to recognize any of the refugees. The worst situation is that the local Chinese
authorities have requested that Kachin refugees staying in the Nongdao district of Yunnan
Province go back to Burma as soon as possible, the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO)
has responded by building a new camp in its territory to house the displaced families at this time.

APPEAL FOR PARTNERSHIP MINISTRY

spiritual support through ministry of God’s Word in counseling, Bible preaching, Bible

2. Humanitarian Need-Food: Internally displaced Kachin people living in the camps China are facing
increasing shortage of foods.
-Medical assistance: The challenge is to overcome the spread of diseases and medical
care to be provided to infants, children, elderly people and nursing mother.
-Winter Shelter and warm clothing: It is extremely important to supply aid in food,
shelter, medicine and other material as winter approaches the situation grows more and
more dire for tens of thousands of internally displaced persons, mostly women and
children. Without proper winter clothing they face frostbite, hypothermia and death.
Many refugees have no mats, blankets or mosquito nets.

assistance.
3. Protection needed for Kachin Refugees inside China: Chinese authorities have forced
back some ethnic Kachin refugees who have fled across the border to escape civil war,
and China is denying basic care to many who remain. The Chinese government has not
permitted UNHCR to provide humanitarian assistance to Kachin IDPs and refugees. At
