Methods of instruction: lectures, laboratory exercises and assignments,
Attendance Policy: Attendance is taken each class period. Students may be withdrawn from the course by the
instructor after accumulating 4 unexcused absences. If an absence is anticipated, please contact your instructor
ahead of time. *It is the student’s responsibility to check blackboard and student e-mail for announcements
and assignments if a class is missed.
In case of inclement weather or emergency: If you feel the college may cancel classes due to weather or some
other event, you can tune in to WLPO 1220 AM or check the college website: www.ivcc.edu. If class is
canceled, it is the student’s responsibility to check blackboard and student e-mail for announcements and
assignments.
Academic dishonesty and cheating: Any student caught cheating during a test, quiz, or any other evaluation
will receive a zero for that evaluation. Further actions may be taken as outlined in the student handbook.
* Violations of the IVCC Student Code of Conduct may result in appropriate disciplinary action, including

Spring 2016
Last day to withdrawal April 28th: Students now have the ability to initiate a withdrawal from classes. By
completing the form in the Records Office or through the form located within webadvisor, the student is
authorizing IVCC to remove him/her from the course. Entering the student ID number serves as the student’s
electronic signature. IVCC has the right to rescind a withdrawal in cases of academic dishonesty or at the
instructor’s discretion.
*Do not assume the instructor will withdraw a student automatically due to lack of attendance.
Students should be aware of the impact of a withdrawal on full-time status for insurance purposes and for
financial aid. It is highly recommended that students meet with their instructor or with a counselor before
withdrawing from a class to discuss if a withdrawal is the best course of action for that particular student.
Student e-mail: All students are now responsible for checking their IVCC e-mail. All electronic college
correspondence will only be sent to the IVCC e-mail (student “K”number@ivcc.edu).
Safety: Please be aware of the location of all exits in your classroom, and know where to go if a fire, tornado, or
intruder alarm sounds during class. You will be expected to quickly and safely use appropriate action should
any of these emergencies or drills take place. Emergency procedures should be posted near the doorway of
each classroom. In case of any emergency, you can dial 911 from any campus phone.
No food, drink, or tobacco is allowed in the classroom or laboratory. Headphones and iPods are not
allowed in the lecture hall or laboratory. Children are not allowed in the lecture hall or laboratory.
Please turn your cell phone off during all class meetings. Cell phones are not allowed in your possession
during exams.
Blackboard: We will be using blackboard this semester. There is a link to blackboard in several places on the
IVCC website. Blackboard will be used for posting announcements, assignments, quizzes, power-points, and
your grades. There is help available for blackboard users at the student help desk in the learning commons and
online at the student help desk web-site. I am also happy to help and assist you with blackboard.
Testing: Lecture tests will be given on scheduled lecture test days during lecture.
Lab test will be given on scheduled days in the biology lab (A-101).
Make-up Tests: There will be a total of 5 lecture tests and 4 lab tests during the course of the semester. If you
miss a lecture and you have an excused absence, you will have 2 school days to make an appointment with your
lecture instructor to take a make-up test. The format of a make-up test will be left to the discretion of the
instructor.
Quizzes: Various quizzes will be given during lecture and in blackboard throughout the semester. Quizzes may
be unannounced. *Missed quizzes cannot be made up.
Assignments: Assignments will be given during the semester. All assignments will have specific due dates and
point values. Late assignments will not be accepted.
