Feature Speaker: Dr. Marci Lobel
Dr. Lobel received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University summa cum
laude and her Ph.D. in Psychology from UCLA. She has been on the faculty at Stony
Brook University for 25 years. Her research focuses on stress, coping, and their
effects on health, well-being, and achievement. Dr. Lobel is Co-Principal Investigator
of a large project funded by the National Science Foundation to examine young
women’s success in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. She is the
author of numerous publications and has received a variety of awards for her
research, teaching, and mentoring. Dr. Lobel and her husband have two children, both of whom have
participated in programs for gifted students.
Dr. Lobel’s presentation: Fostering Psychological Strengths in Gifted Learners
In this participatory session for parents and teachers, Dr. Lobel will explain why healthy socioemotional and
psychological development are fundamental to the success and well-being of gifted learners, and will discuss
how to promote psychological strengths in these children. She will also describe some commonly-observed
emotional and behavioral tendencies in gifted learners and facilitate discussion about overcoming some of the
challenges in raising and teaching these children.

Cancellations: For cancellations received in writing before April 3, 2015, full registration will be refunded – less a
$20 processing fee. No refunds after Monday, April 6, 2015.
