Mrs. Nelson’s 2nd Grade GEP I am so happy to have your child in the Gifted Education Progam (GEP) this Year! This year I will be working with 2nd grade gifted students. We will be working on several units of study including weather, ancient China, and the coast. We will also have a few mini units throughout the year. The SCCPSS gifted program goal is to meet the instructional needs of gifted learners based on each student’s unique abilities. The program seeks to provide differentiated instruction to best meet the needs of the student. At the end of each marking period, students will receive a gifted progress report. The progress report assesses students with a scale of E, M, or B. An E means the student has exceeded expectations, an M stands for met expectations, and a B means that the student fell below expectations. During the first marking period we are going to be studying some wild and crazy weather. Your child will learn about weather instruments, wind scales, meteorology, and just have some fun. Our group will meet each day in room 312. Please let me know if you have any questions about our unit or our classroom. You can reach me at the school by calling 395-4000 or email me at yvette.nelson@sccpss.com. I will send home an information sheet so that I can get your emails and keep in touch with your.
