Around the world, the Kiwanis family is making a dramatic difference in the fight to eliminate maternal and
neonatal tetanus. Since 1999, 33 countries have eliminated MNT—and 13 of those countries achieved
elimination in the last three years alone. The Eliminate Project is helping to power massive immunization
campaigns to protect women and babies all across the globe. For example, just in the past year, we helped
immunize some 1.3 million women in Haiti. And in Kenya, 1.5 million women and their future newborns were
protected from tetanus thanks to The Eliminate Project.
As we begin the 2013-14 Kiwanis year, the Year of Achievement, we reflect on our successes from the Year
of Participation and know we have much to celebrate.
 Eight countries eliminated maternal and neonatal tetanus between October 2012 and
September 2013: Cameroon, China, Cote d' Ivoire, East Timor (Timor Leste), Gabon, Iraq,
Sierra Leone and Tanzania (United Republic of Tanzania).
 We raised US$21.4 million between the 2012 and 2013 Kiwanis International conventions,
saving or protecting more than 11.8 million women and their future babies.
 Our campaign team grew to 6,000 leaders, and we reached 69 percent club coordinator
recruitment.
 Eleven districts cleared US$1 million in funds raised (cash and pledges) for The Eliminate
Project. They include: California-Nevada-Hawaii, Carolinas, Capital, Eastern Canada and the
Caribbean, Florida, Illinois-Eastern Iowa, Nebraska-Iowa, Ohio, Switzerland-Liechtenstein,
Taiwan and Texas-Oklahoma.
 Calabria 2 in Italy San-Marino became our first 100 percent Model Club division, committing to
saving or protecting more than 74,000 lives.
 We ended the Year of Participation with 68 percent of Kiwanis clubs participating.
 New tools and resources were created to help clubs with fundraising activities and spread
awareness of the campaign.
