Most Butterflies are the size of
dinner plates.
Butterflies can have many
different colors of body
covering. Butterflies also have
scales on their wings.
Life Cycle
In the spring they come back to
Manitoba and find milkweed plants.
They lay their eggs on the milk weed. 1st It
is a tiny ridged egg no bigger than a head
of a pin. 2nd the caterpillar begins to
grow/ the egg changes color 1st yellow
then grey then it turns dark grey. The
caterpillar bites a hole in its shell then a
new baby caterpillar is born!
Once the eggs hatch the caterpillars eat
the milkweed. They become poisonous,
and they make their chrysalis. Then they
change into a butterfly . They come out

dry their wings, and they are ready to fly.
