Charles Dine (Arizona Western College) Post tamer b. Heinz Mueller (Phoneix) Old Business 1. Approval of 2012 NFCA caucus minutes submitted and approved. 2. 2014 Lead Off Classic Update-Howie a. Moving to Columbus, GA on March 2, 2014 b. 9 new teams c. Next Tournament 2017 3. National Tournament Update a. D1 May 14-17 St. George, UT b. D2 May 14-17 Clinton, MS c. D3 May 15-17 Rochester, MN i. Lana Ross- Will coaches be apart of the decision making process of new location when contract in St. George, UT expires after this year. 1. 29 total D1 coaches in attendance. An unofficial vote took place, 27 voted to move the location, 2 voted to keep the location. ii. Overall discussion of how location is selected. Susan Painter, ask to question the selection process with the NJCAA. 1. Hildred suggests that there are specific criteria in NJCAA Manual that explains requirements of submitting bids for new sites. iii. Suggested that a NJCAA representative to attend come to the convention to address and hear concerns directly. iv. Discussion of Pros and Cons of combining D1 and D2 national tournaments. a. Pro: 4 year schools will see more players; b. Con: Could possibly take away from the D2 schools, and may feel more like a travel ball tournament rather than a National tournament. 2. Suggested staggering days for the tournament (D2 would start a few days earlier than the D1 tournament or vice versa) v. Suggested find a common and permanent site for the national tournament and stay there every year. New Business 1. Items from Executive Board Meeting a. Pre-Season Poll-January 28th b. Poll Dates: D1- March 12, 19 and 26, April 2, 9, 16 and 23 D2- March 25 run 5 weeks D3- April 1 run 5 weeks 2. Hot Topic a. Move convention to January b. Certifying events for recruiting c. Raising scholarships d. Wants every level heard at caucus e. Move D1 season back one week 3. Rule Changes a. Jayne Clem talks on new homerun celebration rule b. Bat list comes out Monday morningst at 9:00am in December, March and July. c. DP/Flex – add OP (offensive player only) d. Pg 11 Rule book-picture of strike zone/the river has changed. 4. NCFA All-Americans a. 5 Battery, 6 IF, 4 OF and 1 DP and 1 UT i. split the battery, 3 P and 2 C ii. Motion made to split the battery All-Americans 3 P and 2 C and passed iii. Motion made to keep an UT All-American with a 75% games played-Passed iv. Motion to DP/UT (75% of games) and 1 at large-voted down v. Heinz motioned 5 battery (3 pitchers 2 catchers), 5IF, 4OF, 1 DP, 1UT, Howie seconds, and passed. NJCAA 1. Terri K. proposes adding 4 at large bids to the national tournament, picked from highest ranked teams that didn’t win their region. Top 4 teams would have a by the first round of the tournament. a. Motion was passed. b. Motion to remove districts, and all regional champions make the national tournament was denied. 2. Increasing association dues a. Motion to raise dues to $100 was passed b. Motion to mandate all NJCAA head coaches to join NFCA was passed. 3. Canadian Open a. Two year participants b. Coaches are in place c. 16 players, nominations for players must be in by January (date may change) d. Letter will be sent out to NJCAA schools with requirements and details. 4. Other Topics a. Question is brought up about the official compression of the NJCAA ball used. b. Suggested a NJCAA showcase in Chesterfield in October c.
