Course Description
This course designed to analyze the principles of human growth and development across the
lifespan from birth to death. The focus is on understanding the basic premises of physical growth
and development, motor, psychosocial, psychosexual, and cognitive development, and wellness
promotion. It provides the students with a sound theoretical base and processes, by which one
comes to know, think and respond to others. It additionally fosters an appreciation of the need for
individualized health care. In addition it will help the students to analyze conditions that
influence human growth. Various aspects of personal relationships will be examined including
conflict prevention and management techniques.
General Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
1. Discuss several behavioral and social cognitive theories including Freud, Piaget,
Erikson.
2. Describe the major stages of human growth and development.

3. Describe how people change in terms of their cognitive, physical, social &
emotional development.
4. Explain the major determinants of health and development during childhood
5. Describe the critical domains of health and development during early and middle
childhood
6. Discuss health related factors and special problem related to human development across
The life span.
7. State appropriate behavioral expectations and developmental tasks associated with each
major stage of development
8. Identify some of the factors that put people at increased risk for developing psychological
problems at each stage of the lifespan
9. Apply basic principles of developmental psychology to one’s own life experiences.
Specific Learning Objectives
Cognitive:
1. Understand developmental stages according to major theorists.
2. Develop understanding principles, which have implications for the healthy growth and
development.
3. Evaluate the factors that combine and interact to shape the course of development: genes,
developmental history, environmental conditions, and culture.
4. Construct a concept map to organize, synthesize, and summarize concepts of child
development and their relationship to one another.
5. Learn about prenatal development, how drug use can harm the fetus, hazards during birth,

Psychomotor:
1. Apply developmental theory and research methods to a discussion of children's wellbeing.

Appropriately assess the changes physical ,emotional ,cognitive changes among
older adult.
Affective:
1. Gain an understanding of the sensitive periods of development in infants and
children.
2. Apply knowledge, skills, and values learned from course to deal effectively with
different age group
3. Acquire skills needed to effectively communicate about child health and development
with community.
4. Discuss health related factors and special problem related to human development
across the life span.
5. State appropriate behavioral expectations and developmental tasks associated with
each major stage of development.
6. Examine theories of aging and death, stages of dying and patterns of grief and
bereavement.

Student Responsibilities and Academic Conduct:
There are a number of expectations to achieving the goals of this course and successfully
passing the Adult Health Nursing II. They include:
A. Attendance: Your success in this class will depend on regular attendance and punctuality.
1) Attendance is expected at every class, for those who miss more than 15% of lecture
hours with or without acceptable excuse will be dismissed from the course.
2) If class is missed, students should get missed information from lecture from a
classmate. Instructors will not provide missed information.
3) In the case of a critical life event, homework, quizzes, and exams may be made up,
at the discretion of the faculty.
B. Reading:
1. Reading of textbook assignments should be done before the topic is presented in class
to ensure a basic understanding of the topic before lecture.

C. Active Participation in class discussions:
1. Active participation is important to successful learning. You will be encouraged to join in
on class discussions, share relevant experiences, and ask questions. Emphasis is placed on
practicing English in order to promote English fluency.
STUDENT CONDUCT
1. Meet the course teacher at the posted office hours or by appointment.
2. Avoid cheating, academic misconduct, fabrication, and plagiarism. Such behaviors will
lead to disciplinary action as described in the students’ handbook.
3. Cell phones are required to be turned off during class time.
4. Students are expected to participate in an orderly manner. Students whose behaviors
distract from the learning process will be asked to leave for the day and will count as an
absence. This includes talking during class time
