Name ____________________________ Vocabulary: Unit 11 Each vocabulary unit will last for two weeks. All twenty words will be tested on a vocabulary test at the end of the second week. For the vocabulary test, students will be expected to understand the meaning of each word and be able to use each word in a sentence that shows meaning. Example: Sentence showing meaning – Fiction books tell stories that are made up. Sentence not showing meaning – I like fiction books. The vocabulary words for this unit are on the back of this page. You will have two weeks to complete your homework. Your vocabulary folder will be collected on Friday, March 28 so I can check on your progress. Please make sure your work is in the folder, not just the contract. All work is due on Friday, April 11. Week 1 – Choose 4 different assignments from the week 1 choice board using ten vocabulary words. Try to use all of the words from the list throughout the week. Due on April 11. Week 2 – Choose 4 different assignments from the week 2 choice board using ten vocabulary words. Be sure to use the ten words that you didn’t use week one. Due on April 18. Remember that all 20 vocabulary words will be tested on Friday April 18! Word Hunt Locate your spelling words in a magazine, newspaper, junk mail, online source, or other text that you have at home. Cut and paste the words into the box. Syllable Sorting Sort your words by the number of syllables. Who am I? Choose 6 of your words. Write down 3 clues about each word. Read them to a friend or family member and see if they can guess the word. Sentences Write 8 sentences, using a different vocabulary word in each sentence. Computer Type each word using any font that you like. Print and turn in with your contract. Pictures Choose 6 of your words. Write down 4 words that are related to each vocabulary word or have a similar meaning. Story Picture Draw 1 picture and write a short description of the picture using at least 3 vocabulary words. Story Use at least 5 of your words to write a short story. You can make the story as silly or serious as you like. Concept Definition Map Choose one of your words and fill out a Concept Definition Map for that word. Word Meaning Map Choose one of your words and fill out a Word Meaning Map for that word.
