Compare/Contrast Essay Assignment: Test Grade During class on Wednesday/Thursday, December 2nd- 3rd, we will be writing Compare/Contrast essays from a list of approved movies & stories. Each student will need to choose a pair to read/watch and make notes about it for class Wed/Thurs. Use the Pre-Writing Graphic Organizer to write your thoughts & get everything organized before you start writing. This is a TEST GRADE. The final product is due MONDAY, December 7th. Choose one of the following stories & movies: Bicentennial Man (Story by Isaac Asimov in 1976, Movie directed by Chris Columbus in 1999)- Movie is Rated PG, is available on Google play, YouTube, iTunes, HBO GO, and Amazon video. The Dead (Story by James Joyce, Movie directed by John Huston in 1987)- Movie is Rated PG, is available on Google Play, YouTube, iTunes, and Amazon video. The Sentinel/2001: A Space Odyssey (The Sentinel is a story written by Arthur C. Clarke in 1951, Movie is 2001: A Space Odyssey, directed by Stanley Kubrick in 1968)- Movie is Rated G, is available on Netflix. Breakfast at Tiffany’s (Story by Truman Capote in 1958, Movie directed by Blake Edwards in 1961)- Movie is Rated G, is available on Netflix. Where the Wild Things Are (Story by Maurice Sendak in 1963, Movie directed by Spike Jonze in 2009)- Movie is Rated PG, is available on Google Play for $3, YouTube for $3, iTunes, and Amazon video. Essay Requirements: Must have at least three similarities. Must have two things that are different about the movie and two things that are different about the story. Must have an introduction paragraph, a paragraph for the similarities, a paragraph for the differences, and a conclusion paragraph. Will be graded on spelling, grammar, punctuation, handwriting, and organization of ideas. Each similarity and difference must include details from the story/movie.
