Dear Parents,
Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatallahi Wa Baraakatahu
Year 3 and 5 NAPLAN:
On Tuesday 13th, Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th May, students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will take part in the National
Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy, or NAPLAN, as it is commonly known. Skills that will be tested include:
reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. These tests are done here at school and are considered
just another part of the curriculum. It is important for you and your child to know that NAPLAN is not a pass/fail test. It
simply looks at what level students are achieving in literacy and numeracy against National Standards and compared with
student peers throughout Australia. NAPLAN cannot be studied for and students are not expected to do so. The best way you
can help your child prepare for NAPLAN is to let them know that it is just a routine part of their school program, and to urge
them to do the best they can on the day. All students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 are expected to participate in NAPLAN testing.
Later in the year we will send parents an individual student NAPLAN report that you can use to view and monitor how your
child is progressing. On the days of the NAPLAN testing, students are permitted to bring:
- Lead pencils
- A pencil sharpener
- An eraser
- A ruler
Please make sure all students have a goodnight sleep, a healthy breakfast and arrive at school on time. More information is
available on the NAP website.
Full School Uniform:
The wearing of the Malek Fahd school uniform helps foster pride in the school and assist in developing good conduct. The
wearing of the school uniform develops in students an understanding of the importance of personal neatness, appearance,
presentation and self discipline. It minimises, on a day to day basis, disputes or indecision about what is appropriate school
wear. Students should be proud to wear the Malek Fahd uniform. Please ensure during the colder months that all students
wear a MFIS jumper or blazer to keep them warm. Sports jackets to be worn only on sports days. Students also need to be
wearing black school shoes and boys need to wear their ties. Please note, jewellery is not permitted apart from a watch.
Primary School Photos:
Primary School Photos will be held on Tuesday 20th May and P.S.S.A sport photos will be on Friday 6th June 2014.
‘Academy Photography’ will be in charge of all school photos. A purchase request form has already been sent home with
your child. Please return the form clearly labelled with your child’s name and class and the correct money. There is no
obligation to purchase any photos. All students are expected to be in their school uniform and appropriate P.S.S.A team
uniform regardless of whether they are purchasing a photo or not.
