Continue working on Essay topic ‘Is it cruel to keep animals in cages/enclosures?” Begin next persuasive essay topic: “Should the legal drinking age be increased to 21?” Essay is due this week; “Is it cruel to keep animals in cages?” NAPLAN preparation begins. The focus this week will be on parts of speech. Persuasive essay due; “Should the legal drinking age be increased to 21?” Homework sheets on grammar. Reading comprehension activities. Focus on NAPLAN (NAPLAN 14th -16th May) Week 3 Focus on reading comprehension. Homework Students will be taught reading strategies such as identifying key words within the question, how to understand what the question is asking. How to skim and scan for key words within the text. Practise reading comprehension activities will take place. Homework sheets on language conventions. Week 4 Focus on persuasive writing and language conventions. Throughout the term, we will have a big focus on language conventions. This includes: spelling, grammar, punctuation, similes, metaphors and homophones. However this week is solely on language conventions. We will also complete practise NAPLAN tests. Week 5 NAPLAN Practise NAPLAN this week. Week 6 Introduction to debating. How to prepare and present a persuasive speech. Oral presentations to be given in front of class next week. Teacher Driven Week 7 Poetry song analysis begins. Introduction on Metalanguage this week. Students will read a range of poems and analyse them.
