The department seeks a specialist in Physical Education with expertise in K-12 Teacher Education and Lifelong Wellness through Active Living to allow the Department to meet the urgent local and statewide need for Physical Education Teachers and Lifelong Physical Activity Specialists. The department has about 800 majors and offers two bachelors’ (Exercise and Movement Science, and Physical Education) and a master’s degree. The department embraces an interdisciplinary approach to Kinesiology that emphasizes the influence of the form, function, and effectiveness of movement and physical activity across the lifespan and for special populations, such as individuals with disabilities or chronic diseases. Qualifications: Candidates should have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a sub-discipline of Kinesiology. ABD candidates are encouraged to apply, but must have completed their doctoral degree by the first day of the appointment. Candidates should have a strong background in teacher preparation in Physical Education with training across the K-12 levels and lifelong physical activity and wellness. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work within a multidisciplinary department as a member of a team and within a multicultural and diverse University setting. Candidate must demonstrate evidence of, or potential for, a high standard of teaching and scholarly activity and success in securing external funding related to this position. Interest and ability to extend expertise into the community is expected. Experience teaching on-line courses is desirable. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and members of the university and local community are a necessity. Excellent writing skills are also required. Candidates are preferred who have teaching and/or research experience with a large, diverse student body or in multicultural settings. Responsibilities: The position requires graduate and undergraduate teaching in K-12 school physical education and lifelong physical activity to majors who plan to become scho ol classroom teachers and/or physical activity and wellness specialists; teach a variety of instructional analysis courses; supervise field experiences; and advise physical education teaching majors and credential students. It requires mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate students, developing an active ongoing scholarship program in related areas to the position, and ongoing committee and service assignments. The candidate will work towards developing a collaborative partnership for an integrated teacher preparation program with the local public schools, the Department, and the Graduate College of Education.
