To audition for supporting or leading roles, please use the NURSE piece. To be specifically considered for leads, please use either the ROMEO (men only) or JULIET(women only) piece. JULIET: O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name. Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, and I’ll no longer be a Capulet. ‘Tis but thy name that is my enemy. Thou art thyself, though not a Montague. What’s Montague? It is nor hand, nor foot, Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part Belonging to a man. O, be some other name! What’s in a name? That which we call a rose By any other word would smell as sweet. So Romeo would, were he not Romeo called, Retain that dear perfection which he owes Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name, And for that name, which is no part of thee Take all myself. ROMEO: But soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon, Who is already sick and pale with grief, That thou, her maid, art far more fair than she. Be not her maid since she is envious. Her vestal livery is but sick and green, And none but fools do wear it. Cast it off! It is my lady. Oh, it is my love. Oh, that she knew she were! She speaks, yet she says nothing. What of that? Her eye discourses. I will answer it. – I am too bold. ‘Tis not to me she speaks. NURSE: Romeo is banished, and all the world to nothing That he dares ne’er come back to challenge you. Or, if he do, it needs must be by stealth. Then, since the case so stands as now it doth, I think it best you married with the county. Oh, he’s a lovely gentleman. Romeo’s a dishclout to him. An eagle, madam, Hath not so green, so quick, so fair an eye As Paris hath. Beshrew my very heart, I think you are happy in this second match, For it excels your first. Or if it did not, Your first is dead, or ‘twere as good he were, As living here and you no use of him. See how she leans her cheek upon her hand. Oh, that I were a glove upon that hand That I might touch that cheek! CHORUS: Two households, both alike in dignity (In fair Verona, where we lay our scene), From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life, Whose misadventured piteous overthrows Doth with their death bury their parents’ strife. The fearful passage of their death-marked love And the continuance of their parents’ rage, Which, but their children’s end, naught could remove, Is now the two hours’ traffic of our stage The which, if you with patient ears attend, What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend. As a member of the cast or crew I am aware that I am expected to attend all rehearsal/work sessions which involve after-school hours, three productions, and two tech Saturdays. In addition, I understand that I am required to stay for strike, no matter how lengthy, following the show on November 22. I realize that a severe drop in my grades would make me ineligible to participate in the production in any capacity. Since my conduct reflects on the company as a whole and on the Theatre Arts Department of Potomac Falls High School, I shall at all times exhibit attitudes and behaviors which will not jeopardize the position of either. Because we work together so closely, I will exhibit proper conduct at all times. I will not use inappropriate language. At no time will I make a comment or a joke at the expense of another cast member. I understand that doing so can result in immediate dismissal from the show. Because of the interdependence of cast and crew, I understand that I am to be on stage, with a pencil and my script, ready to work at my designated rehearsal time. I also understand that I am required to stay the full length of rehearsal every day. Out of respect for me and for my family, I understand that Mrs. Deker will release me promptly according to the posted schedule. The only reason I will miss a rehearsal is if I am ill and not in school. If this happens, you need to e-mail Mrs. Deker at Elizabeth.Deker@lcps.org. Missing rehearsals without notice is cause for dismissal from the show. I agree not to take on additional commitments that would conflict with the rehearsal schedule already in place. I understand that as part of this production, I will perform with or around stage weaponry and may learn stage combat choreography. I will use combat properties with appropriate care and will not use them to harm another person, either accidentally or purposefully. Abusing stage combat properties and/or techniques will result in dismissal from the show and appropriate disciplinary action through the school administration.
