Principal’s Message
Wow! This winter has been interesting! With all of the different storms and snow days, our
schedules have been mixed up, changed, and adjusted in so many ways. This newsletter is getting to you
late and will cover the months of March and April.
Our students in grades 3-5 have been busy the past couple of weeks as they take the Maryland
School Assessment (MSA). They have been working hard and have persevered through many questions,
readings, and tasks. This is the last year for the MSA assessment. The new assessment for next year is the
PARCC (Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Career). Each school is piloting a
section of the PARCC assessment this year. At Glen Burnie Park Elementary, Mrs. Ridgely’s grade 3
students will take the PARCC Language Arts assessment at the end of this month.
Spring Portrait Day is scheduled for Wednesday, March 19, 2014. Students will have their
pictures taken individually and with their class. The grade 5 Panoramic Photo will be taken on Tuesday,
March 25, 2014
Our Spring Break is in April this year. The school will be closed from Monday, April 21, 2014,
through and including Monday, April 21, 2014. Classes will resume for students on Tuesday, April 22,
2014.
At this time, we do not have the dates for the end of the school and the last day of school. That
information will be sent to you as soon as we receive it.
Thank you for your continued support to Glen Burnie Park Elementary School.
Sincerely,
Theresa A. Zablonski

Kindergarten Registration for 2014-2015 School Year
Kindergarten registration is April 8-11, 2014. All children who will be five years
old on or before September 1, 2014, must register for Kindergarten. Parents must bring the
child’s original birth certificate, immunization record and two proofs of residence. The
first proof of residency MUST be mortgage or lease documents or a notarized Tenant
Verification Form, which may be obtained in the Glen Burnie Park Elementary School’s office.
The second proof of residency may consist of the following: utility bill, current bank statement,
current pay stub, property tax/income tax, W-2 form, telephone bill, social security check stub,
or domestic relations check stub.
A Reminder Message About Attendance
School attendance is very important. Please make every effort to maintain a strong
attendance effort for your child. If your child is absent, you must provide a note of explanation to
the school within three days of your child’s return to school. A physician’s note is required for
absences due to illness in excess of three consecutive days.
A student is considered “excessively absent” when he/she misses six or more days of
school in a semester. At the elementary level, excessive absences may result in a
recommendation for retention. This decision is based upon the reasons for absences, the total
amount of missed instruction, and the impact on the student’s academic achievement.
Student tardiness is also looked at very carefully. Students should be at school by 8:25
AM so that they can get to their classrooms for the 8:30 AM morning announcements and then
be ready for instruction that begins at 8:35 AM.
Student attendance is reviewed monthly with the school principal, school counselor,
attendance secretary, and pupil personnel worker from AACPS Central Office.
Help Keep Our Students Safe
Students should not arrive to school prior to 8:10 AM each morning. Outside supervision
does not begin until 8:10, as staff is just arriving prior to that time. We have many walkers that
are arriving too early. Several car riders are just being dropped off at the school too early, as
well. Car riders should wait in the car line and students should not exit cars until the staff comes
out to monitor. Please help us keep our students safe. Thank you.
PE News
We will again be participating in The Jump Rope for Heart to benefit the American Heart
Association. Collection envelopes will be going home on March 19, 2014. They will be due on
April 9 (Wed.).
Field Day order forms for shirts will be going home on March 12 and will be due by
March 28.
Science Fair
The school science fair will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 5:30-7:00. You
are invited to come and see all of the student entries. Students have received information about
the science fair and can begin working on this project.
