We know that a lot of what is currently available is not reaching people and we aim to develop creative responses to address these inequalities. This post will be central to developing new and innovative approaches to addressing health inequalities and improving wellbeing. The post will be most suitable to a person who is flexible, can recognise when an intervention is not working and are open to changing course as the circumstances change. Those interested in the status quo need not apply. As a new organisation this is an opportunity to make your mark and learn in real time. While exciting this may result in some frustration which you will need to able to manage. The role will involve designing and delivering a programme of innovative and diverse activities in North London aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of Irish people. You will also be expected to work as part of a team which delivers training to groups of Irish people and health care professionals, develops appropriate health promotional material and information, and collects and analyses data to influence public policy. Working as part of a team you will have previous experience in a similar role, ideally in a health, social care or voluntary sector setting. You will need to be comfortable handling highly sensitive information and difficult personal situations. You will receive regular supervision. Strong communication and time management skills will be required; you will also be computer literate. An understanding of and empathy with the particular health needs and cultural health determinants of the Irish community is essential. MIND YOURSELF JOB DESCRIPTION PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT WORKER Job Title: Programme Development Worker [One year fixed term contract] Salary: c. £22,000 pro rata [incl Inner London Weighting] + 7.5% Employers pension contribution after 6 month’s probation Hours: 21 hours per week – 25 days annual leave pro rata Location: Kings Cross/Camden- Exact location to be confirmed Reporting to: Director SUMMARY The Programme Development Worker will work as part of the Mind Yourself team to reduce health inequalities in the Irish community and improve the well being of people of Irish birth and descent including Irish Travellers. The post holder will be expected to develop and deliver a programme of creative and developmental activities [encompassing the arts, social, heritage, culture, conservation/environment and physical activity] across the North London area which improve the health and wellbeing of the Irish community. Working in partnership with other agencies to deliver these programmes will be a key aspect of the role. The post holder will work as part of a team to develop innovative culturally sensitive health promotion material, identify trends and influence public policy. You are expected to identify funding opportunities and where appropriate to get involved in funding bids and fundraising to support the work. RESPONSIBILITIES Assessing the health and well being needs of the Irish community in London Developing a diverse and creative programme of activities which meet these needs and improve the health and wellbeing of Irish people in London including mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well being Working to develop an awareness within the Irish community of specific health risks Developing and maintaining effective relationships with partner organisations in the Irish community, and wider health and wellbeing community Ensuring the delivery of the programme of activities in Mind Yourself premises or premises of partner organisations Developing and delivering agreed training programmes on health and wellbeing to Irish people and to health professionals Contributing to the development of culturally appropriate health promotion material and programmes Identifying potential volunteers to support the work and provide support for volunteers Maintaining effective records of work which are data compliant Reviewing and evaluating activities on an ongoing basis Attending seminars, conferences and workshops as required Contributing to policy submissions Maintaining your own wellbeing by participating in regular supervision and in team meetings SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Degree [or equivalent experience] in social care, health promotion, community health or other relevant discipline Knowledge and experience of the changing health system in London, understanding of the personalisation agenda and of health inequalities Experience of partnership development and working Experience of developing and delivering developmental group work activities and training An understanding of wellbeing in its widest sense, experience of promoting wellbeing and a personal commitment to your own wellbeing Understanding of data compliance systems Experience of contributing to policy development Interest in and experience of user involvement processes Understanding of and empathy with Irish Health needs in London and cultural health determinants of Irish people Experience in developing public awareness campaigns and promotional material Ability to work with hard to reach and vulnerable service users in a respectful, sensitive way Effective admin and note taking skills, and understanding the need for confidentiality and to work sensitively with peoples personal information Flexible, adaptable and self motivated approach to work – ability to work on your own initiative Commitment to a rights based approach to health and wellbeing Commitment to a multidisciplinary approach to working Experience of working with and supporting volunteers Computer Literate Mind Yourself is an equal opportunities employer.
