Student Learning Outcomes Assessment Plan General Education Courses: Mathematics Learning Outcomes: Students will demonstrate the ability to: 1 2 3 4 5 Use mathematics to solve problems an determine if the solutions are reasonable. Use mathematics to model real world behaviors and apply mathematical concepts to the solution of real-life problems. Make meaningful connections between mathematics and other disciplines. Use technology for mathematical reasoning and problem solving. Apply mathematical and/or basic statistical reasoning to analyze data and graphs. ALL learning outcomes must be satisfied by any course in this category. Courses from this discipline that must be assessed: MATH 1010 Math for Liberal Arts MATH 1530 Elementary Statistics MATH 1630 Finite Math MATH 1710 Precalculus Algebra MATH 1720 College Trigonometry MATH 1830 Applied Calculus MATH 1910 Calculus and Analytic Geometry I Assessment Action Items - The following steps must be completed to assess each course: 1. Assessment Plan Development and Approval – Develop a plan, modify or continue with existing plan for assessing ALL of the above outcomes in every section of each course offered during the semester that the data will be collected. Submit new plans or modifications for approval by October 1st of each required year. All courses listed above should have assessment plans approved during the first 3 years of the cycle. 2. Data Collection – Collect student work to be reviewed. 3. Analysis of Findings and Identification of Improvement Strategies – Submit a report which explains the findings of the assessment exercise and provide a plan to improve any areas of weakness identified. 4. Progress Report on Improvement Strategies – Submit a narrative report describing the progress made on the improvement strategies identified. Required Reporting – During the 5 year cycle the following reports are required: 1. Assessment Timetable – Distributed and established with any necessary revisions by September 15th of each year. 2. Plan Development – New plans and modifications must be submitted for approval by October 1st of each required year. To ensure that all assessment action items are completed during the 5 year cycle, all plan development reports should be submitted during the first 3 years of the cycle. 3. Analysis of Findings and Identification of Improvement Strategies – To be submitted with the Level I Program Review each year that this action item is included in the timeline. 4. Progress Report on Improvement Strategies – To be submitted with the Level I Program Review each year that this action item is included in the timeline. Report forms for these reports will be posted on the Program Review website and approved timelines and plans for each program will be posted to this website after they are approved. Student Learning Outcomes Assessment Timetable for Program: Mathematics Assessment Timetable: All general education courses must be assessed within a five year period but you may choose to address them within a shorter timeframe. For each course, the table below indicates which semester the following steps will occur using the abbreviations included in parenthesis beside each assessment action item: 1. Assessment Plan Development and Approval (AP) 2. Data Collection (DC) 3. Analysis of Findings and Improvement Strategies Identified (AI) 4.
