Science - Electives – Environmental Science, Chemistry II, Physics, Biology II/Biology AP
Math

Algebra IA/Algebra IB (2 credits with Algebra IA counting as an elective) >Geometry>Algebra
II> Stem Math (TBD) Note: Unless students fall behind, they should not take more than one
math class per year.

Humanities Focus – basic requirements plus three electives from Language Arts, Foreign
Language or Social Sciences
Language Arts
1. English I >English II > English III > English IV
2. English I Adv. >English II Adv. > English III Adv. > English IV Adv. or Dual
3. Special needs students – Same as #1 but English R may count as 2 electives
4. Electives – Reading (9th grade only), Journalism 2 credits, Dual Speech
Social Sciences
1. World Geography or World History (10th and above only; students taking both may count one
as an elective) > U. S. History or U. S. History Adv. (Jr. only) >Economics and Government ½
each (Sr. only)
2. Special needs students have no special allowances for social sciences
3. Electives – TN History/Civil War History (Jr. and above only, ½ credit each),
Psychology/Sociology (Jr. and above only, ½ credit each
Foreign Languages
1. Spanish I/Spanish II (2 credits, Soph. and above only)
2. French I/French II (2 credits, Soph. and above only)
3. Special needs students should utilize other courses than foreign language to fulfill their
requirements except in rare circumstances
4. Electives – Spanish III/Spanish III AP (2 credits, Jr. and above only)
Fine Arts Focus – basic requirements plus three electives from any fine arts class
* Instrumental music – 8 credits available – all require teacher permission
* Vocal music – 8 credits available – all above freshman level require auditions for enrollment
* Visual Arts – Visual Arts I >Visual Arts II >Visual Arts III>Visual Arts IV (Visual Arts II, III & IV require
teacher permission.
Electives – General Music, Theory and Harmony (requires Vocal I or Instrumental I as a prerequisite),
Beginning Guitar, Beginning Piano
AFROTC Focus – basic requirements plus a minimum of three credits in AFROTC – 8 credits
available
Family Consumer Science Focus – basic requirements plus three credits in a specific FCE
concentration
* Culinary Arts – FCS I >Culinary Arts I > Culinary Arts II
* Interior Design – FCSI >Interior Design > Housing
* Family and Community Services – FCSI >Child Development >Nutrition and Foods
* Fashion Design – FCS1 > Fashion Design > Textiles & Apparel
Note: These don’t mix and match. Courses must be taken in one focus area only for a concentration.
Cosmetology – basic requirements plus three credits in Cosmetology
Cosmetology I (1 credit) >Cosmetology II (2 credits) >Cosmetology III (2 credits)
Cosmetology II and III are yearlong courses.
Transportation – basic requirements plus three credits in Transportation
Auto Maintenance & Repair >Auto Electrical >Auto Engine and Repair
Construction – basic requirements plus three credits in Construction
Construction Core >Carpentry IA >Carpentry IB >Carpentry IIA > Carpentry IIB
Physical Education can only be used to fill basic requirements and as a general elective. It is
not a focus for graduation.
Lifetime Wellness >P.E. (1/2 credit) >PE Weights and Conditioning >Advanced PE. Weights and
Conditioning (PE football & boys and girls basketball are still elective credits and will satisfy the ½ credit
requirement in PE.)
Agriculture – basic requirements plus three credits in a specific Agriculture concentration
* Power, Structure and Technical Systems – Principles of Ag. >Ag. Mechanics > Ag Power &

* Plant Systems – Principles of Ag. >Leadership Communication >Greenhouse Mgmnt

Keyboarding/keyboarding applications for 2009-10 freshmen is just a general elective and doesn’t fit
into any focus. They must still have Computer applications.
