Name____________________ Health Nutrition Project MyPlate.gov Students will build a base understanding of nutrition and analyze their own diet and activity levels. Students will be assessed on knowledge and application of principles through the analysis of their diet and activity level and how it compares to the recommendations of the USDA for their age, gender and activity level. Students will realize the important role nutrition plays in overall wellness. All questions are based on MyPlate.gov .Please answer questions as thoroughly as possible. Answers should be typed (10 pt. deduction if not typed.) 1. Students will go to myplate.gov and read the information on the home page. Students will watch a short clip from the Communities on the Move – What video did you watch and what was the message? (5pts) 2. Students will go to Weight Management and Calories tab and define the following terms and give examples: (10pts) a. Empty Calories b. Added Sugars c. How do you cut down on empty calories? Look at the food chart and list your top three empty calorie food items that you consume. 3. Students will to go the physical Activity Tab and answer the following: (9pts) a. What is considered physical activity? b. How much is needed on a daily basis for Adults, children/adolescents? c. List 3 ways you will use to increase physical activity at home and work. 4. Students will to Super Tracker and other tools tab and create a profile. Input two days of your food journal and print out your results – Nutrients report and the food groups and calories report. (you may use the pdf file or word doc) Please label worksheet day 1 and day 2 and fill worksheet according to directions on page and information in class. (20pts) a.
