We look forward to meeting you as a member of the Valencia College Fall 2015 Diagnostic Sonography Program. This letter provides information regarding your mandatory orientation and other requirements you must complete by the established deadlines. You will also find several documents that will assist you in completing the requirements. Please check your Atlas e-mail regularly for information, as Atlas e-mail is the official form of communication between you and your Valencia faculty and fellow students. In order to reserve your place in the August 2015 Diagnostic Sonography Program, you must complete the tasks described in this letter. 1. ATTEND MANDATORY ORIENTATION Date: Friday, July 17, 2015 Time: 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Location: AHS Room #246 Parking: Parking lots A and C (white lines only) Professional dress is required (no shorts, jeans, etc.) From 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., there will be several services/vendors. Bring cash, checkbook, and credit/debit cards. The attached Disclosure of Costs for your program will help you know how to plan. The services/vendors may include: Uniform information specific to the your program Immunizations/titers: Centra Care will available in HSB 225 for your convenience; a student pricing list is attached FIT testing for your respirator mask will be provided during orientation in HSB 228 beginning at 10:00 a.m. o Please do NOT chew gum, drink or eat for at least 30 minutes prior to your FIT test. If you must have something to drink, you may have ONLY WATER o Men should be clean shaven o Men and women with long or braided hair must be prepared to tie back 2. Order your background check, fingerprinting, and drug testing On this website, please locate the Certified Background Instructions to order your background check, fingerprinting, drug testing. The Immunization/ Document Manager will identify the requirements you must meet prior to the compliance deadline on August 1, 2015. The following fee is payable at the time the order is placed: $190.75. For a small processing fee, you are offered the opportunity to make this payment in three increments. You must complete the background check, fingerprinting and drug testing through CertifiedBackground.com regardless of any other background check, fingerprinting or drug testing you have completed previously. 3. UNIFORMS It is MANDATORY that you have a Sonography clinical uniform” and a Sonography campus uniform. The clinical uniform will be worn to the clinical sites and on other occasions. The campus uniform, to be worn to all Sonography classes, consists of a red polo shirt embroidered with the program name and black slacks. At Orientation, you will be measured for a clinical uniform(s) and you will pay that day. Each uniform is about $45, depending upon the style and size, and you may want to order two. For your campus uniform, you will order at least one polo shirt at Orientation. The shirts cost between $25 and $30, depending upon the size, and you will need to pay at Orientation with cash or a check payable to Valencia. You will purchase the black slacks wherever you choose. 4. TAKE AIDS, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, AND MEDICAL ERRORS COURSES There are three mandatory classes that all Sonography students must attend before starting clinical education in Fall Session, the end of August. The prices listed below are for Valencia degree students only. AIDS 104 (4 hours) Domestic Violence: Health Professionals (2 hours) Prevention of Medical Errors (2 hours) $20 $12 $12 To register and pay for these classes go to: http://valenciacollege.edu/cehealth Look for “Course section is for Valencia degree students only.” It is essential to familiarize yourself with the information and attachments in this letter so you are ready for the mandatory orientation on July 17, 2015.
