Portland VA Research Foundation Scientist
Research Pharmacologist, Portland VA Medical Center
Professor, Department of Behavioral Neuroscience
Oregon Health and Science University
Dr. Neve received his B.A. degree in psychology from Dana College in Blair, Nebraska,
his Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California at Irvine, and
postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. His laboratory
carries out basic research on the mechanism of action of drugs used to treat
neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and Parkinson’s disease, and on the
biological bases of the addictive properties of abused drugs such as methamphetamine.
Dr. Neve is also Program Director of a training program on the biological bases of drugseeking behavior funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Schizophrenia,
Parkinson’s disease, and drug abuse are all important problems in the veteran
population; Dr. Neve’s goal is to identify new directions for the development of novel
medications for these disorders. Dr. Neve has over 70 scientific publications and has
edited several books on the receptors that are the primary targets of current medicines
for schizophrenia and Parkinson’s disease.
