To provide quality nursing care to all clients/residents/patients of the Lorne
Community Hospital and wider community.
Position Purpose
To provide quality nursing care to all clients/residents/patients of the Lorne Community Hospital and wider
community. In the absence of senior staff take an in-charge role.

 Provide leadership in taking responsibility for your own health and safety

of the emergency management plan.

issue resolution processes are maintained.

 Ensure all services are provided within a quality and risk management

Functional
Responsibilities
Coordinate the ongoing quality improvement work in accordance with
the strategic quality systems of the Organisation.
Facilitate the acute accreditation processes throughout the survey cycle.
Leadership
 Exhibit leadership behaviours and provide a professional role model.
Personnel Management
 Take a role with the delegation and supervision of other staff ensuring
that patient care is of the highest standard
 Participate in motivation and educate all staff to optimise involvement
and responsibility for quality improvements
 Participate in the preceptorship of all students at LCH
Quality and Evidence Based Practice
 Assist with data for quality improvement and Clinical Risk.
 Management activities as required in consultation with the Nurse Unit
Managers (NUMs).
 Be familiar with the Quality plans for the Organisation and the clinical
units and participate in meeting those plans.
Risk Management
 Ensure all decisions are in line with the LCH Instrument of Delegation.



Take responsibility for reporting all events outside normal daily routine
with possible risk implications be reported to the DCS in an appropriate
time frame &/or logged on Riskman.
Participate in the ongoing development and maintenance of systems,
policies and procedures for the identification, collection and analysis of risk
related information.
Participate in and ensure excellent understanding of emergency procedures.
Service Development
 Provide a positive role model to all staff and key stakeholders.
 Maintain current knowledge of nursing trends and best practice care
 Attend external seminars and study days as appropriate and give
feedback to nursing department and organisation.
Clinical Responsibilities
 Provide effective and efficient clinical care, and work in collaboration
with nursing and medical colleagues to ensure the maintenance of safe,
integrated, person-centred care.
 Establish a safe working environment in which patients receive a high
standard of care.
 Ensure staff, patients and carers receive education and health
information appropriate to their needs.
 Participate in the facilitation of patient / client / resident care whilst on
duty.
 Treat all patients with care, compassion, dignity and respect at all times
and without compromise.
 Ensure that all patients receive timely, accurate, up to date information in
respect of their overall health status and health management plan.
 Ensure that all residents / patients & clients are involved in the decision
making process about their health management program, and maintain
Privacy and Confidentiality.
 Ensure that effective communication occurs with all patient and their
relatives in relation to their health management from staff and health
professionals.
Selection Criteria

 Participate in the appraisal process six months after commencement and
annually thereafter.
Essential
Registered Nurse (AHPRA).
Current experience in acute nursing.
Willingness to work both in aged acre and acute areas.
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
Well-developed problem – solving abilities.
Demonstrated ability to manage change and ambiguity.
Commitment to flexibility and innovation in practice including evidence – based
approach to care.
Demonstrated ongoing commitment to professional development.
Demonstrate computer skills.
Desirable
Experience in Emergency Nursing.
