George Gadbois, Jr. dvancement Chair, Potomac District Pinewood Derby Workshop -- January 23 Dear Cub Scout Pack Leaders & Families, Cub Scout Pack 706 from Our Lady of Mercyin Potomac, Maryland, will be conducting our annual Pinewood Derby Workshop on Saturday, January 23, 2016. This is an opportunity of your boys to complete the major tasks of designing and building their PWD cars. For one day, our cafeteria becomes a fully equipped woodworking shop, with a series of work stations staffed by experienced volunteers for: car design, band saws to cut out the basic shape, powers sanders for rough sanding, a hand sanding area, drill presses or insert weights and finally a weight station with precision scales for weighing cars and adding weight as necessary. We strive to improve the workshop every year. We welcome suggestions and recommendations from past participants that may improve the workshop experience. This year, we will once again be able to provide lead weights, but availability in future years is uncertain. We will have a small number of official Pinewood Derby car kits available for sale, however we recommend that you purchase car kits by the case from the Scout Store to ensure availability and the lowest price for your Pack. Also, take advantage of the many websites with design ideas and tips for building fast cars! The cost is the same as last year, $10 per car builder, including any nonCub Scout brothers and sisters who participate. We invest a substantial portion of our revenue each year in replacing or upgrading our extensive array of woodworking equipment, as well as the ever-greater cost of lead weights. In order to ensure a smooth flow of car builders, we require that you make a reservation for your Pack. Please designate your first, second, and third choice of time slots. Please also estimate the number of car builders from your Pack. We will be assigning Packs a time slot on the hour and half hour. Time slots are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once we have reached capacity, we will stop accepting reservations. Please ask your Pack to adhere to your Pack's scheduled time-slot. Please notice the time slots currently "Available" below. The time slots are wide open at this time, but it fills up every year, so please get back to us soon! 8:00 AM "Available" 8:30 AM "Available" 9:00 AM "Available" 9:30 AM "Available" 10:00 AM "Available" 10:30 AM "Available" 11:00 AM "Available" 11:30 AM "Available" 12:00 noon "Available" 12:30 PM "Available" 1:00 PM "Available" 1:30 PM "Available" 2:00 PM "Available" 2:30 PM Pack 706 (30 boys) Please contact me as soon as possible to reserve your time slot.
