Welcome to the Research Capacity
Enhancement Workshop Series
conducted by RIMC, UNIMAS. This
workshop series are meant for early
career researchers and academics
looking to develop their research career.
In this workshop series, you get to learn
on writing successful research grants,
various research methodologies, data
analyses with the aid of computers and
using the computers to prepare quality
reports and presentations. Above all,
you will get to meet fellow researchers,
make friends with colleagues from
various fields, and share experiences.
to efficiently utilize the power and
flexibility of SPSS for Windows so as to get
the most from their data. Through a
series of “hands-on” sessions and
exposure on the basic statistics concepts,
they will gain that vital experience and
knowledge that will transform them from
SPSS novices to productive data analysts
with basic understanding in statistics
theory.
Topics covered in this workshop are:


Elementary Statistics
for Sciences with SPSS
This workshop guides the
participants through the
fundamentals of using SPSS for
Windows as well as to provide basic
statistics knowledge necessary for
their science-based research needs.
The course is structured so as to
provide effective training in all the 4
stages of a typical data analysis
process – data definition and input,
data modification, data analysis and
data presentation. Participants will
learn




The fundamental steps in using SPSS
for data entry, data screening and data
modification
How to use SPSS to generate graphical
descriptive presentations
How to use SPSS to generate numerical
descriptive presentations
Practicing with SPSS [using own data if
applicable]
How to use SPSS to conduct basic
parametric statistical analyses such as
t-tests, One-Way ANOVA and bivariate
correlation.
Practicing with SPSS [using own data if
applicable]
About the Workshop
Facilitator
Associate Professor Dr. Ling Teck Yee
is a senior lecturer at the Department
of Chemistry, Faculty of Resource
Science and Technology, Universiti
Malaysia Sarawak. She teaches
mathematics and statistics and uses
SPSS in her research. To date, she has
published a total of 40 research
articles in international and national
journals and international and national
conference proceedings.
