Slide 11 NATIONAL STATISTICAL COUNCIL (NSC) Constituted under the general statistics act, 1975, the National Statistical Council is the supreme statistical policy making body in the field of statistics. The council is headed by the Finance Minister and has high level experts both from the public and private sectors as its members. Through its periodic meetings, the NSC reviews statistical programmers, determines their priority and provides guidelines for improvement in the statistical services. The council has also been given an additional role to serve as an advisory board in the field of statistics. To make the council more effective, its composition has been revised from time to time to include top professionals and experts.
