About the deserts
The Deserts are very hot and dry. They are also cold in
the winter. There are cold deserts. The deserts in the
night are very cold, especially in winter. In the desert
there is only little rain, but after the rain flowers
grows and you feel that spring is now. Only few
plants exist in the desert. There is only some animals
that exist in the desert.

The Environmental Conditions of the
Desert
Desert covers about 1 fifth of the earth’s
surface. The rainfall in the desert is less than
50 cm a year. One of the largest deserts in the
world is alrub alkhali. Spreading over an area
of 137987.90 sq. miles, the Arabian desert is
one of the most amazing faces of the planet

Introduction to Desert Animals
Desert animals are mostly small but there are
large animals. Not all the animal can live in the
deserts. There are only some animals that can
live and survive in the desert. Most of the
animals that live in the desert live
underground for several hours of the day.
They adapt the heat by hiding under rocks
when the sun sets.

• Kangaroo Rat (Jerboa)
The Jerboa lives in a hole underground. It
eats soft plants. It only eats at night and it only
gets out at night.
• Camel
The camel is one of the desert animals.
The camel eats the desert trees. It can
survive for 1 week without water, it takes the
water and it will store it in her hump.

The fennec fox gets out only at night.
It lives in many places and many
different types of weather. It eats
meat.
• Oryx
The Oryx lives in the Arabian gulf and in
Africa. It eats all the green plants. Most

Not all plants can exist in the desert because
there is lack of water, and the heat of the
desert. Some plants can exist in the desert
these plants are the desert plants and the
plants that don’t need lots of water. The
desert plants drink water from the rain the
comes to it.

medicine. The caper plant grows up
to about 60 cm upright. It can

plant has a very deep root system,

• Construction work ruin the desert
environment.
• People throw trash in the desert

• People make protectorates for the desert.
