The Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs will be hosting the 2016 Spring Volunteer Fair on Tuesday, February 2nd in the Sykes Ballrooms from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Make sure to stop by to connect with dozens of community and government agencies! Play 4 Kay Raffle Baskets!! Time to get creative, have some fun and help raise awareness!! The WCU Women’s and Men’s Basketball teams need baskets to raffle off during the Play 4 Kay games to raise funds for the Kay Yow Foundation and raise awareness about breast cancer. UPCOMING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES----Meals on Wheels of Chester County Volunteers are needed now who can commit to once or twice a month on a particular day to pick up meals at the Chester County Hospital at 10:30 am and deliver them to our clients living in West Chester. Delivery of meals takes about 1 hour to 1 ½ hours. The coolers that the meals are packed in must be returned to the hospital after the route is finished. Directions and training is provided. YMCA: Adams Championship Swim Meet, Airport Road, West Chester, 19380 January 29-30, 2016, Friday from 4-8pm and Saturday from 7am-7pm The Adams Championship Swim Meet is in need of volunteers. If you are interested in swimming or are a swimmer yourself, this event is for you. It will be occurring this weekend at the YMCA on Airport Road. Come out and support the YMCA Marlins swim team. Girls Exploring Todays Technology (GETT), West Chester East High School Campus March 12, 2016 from 8:30am- 2pm GETT is in search of female college students preferably in a STEM field major to serve as GETT ambassadors. Your responsibilities would include leading a group of 8-12 girls in grades of 5 through 10 around the various STEM activities taking place that day. This event will be occurring just outside our college town, at the West Chester East High School Campus. Case for Smiles Bag Bingo Friday, April 6, 2016 from 7-10pm (doors open at 6:30pm) Are Ya’ Free Friday Night? Come out to St. Luke’s Greek Orthodox Church, Broomall Pa to support Ryan’s Case for Smiles Bag Bingo Event. This event is in full support for bringing smiles to sick children in hospitals. Tickets are $25 in advance and, if available, $30 at the door, come help raise money for children suffering with long term illnesses and cancer. Each bingo prize winner will receive a fabulous handbag. Also, BYOB snacks, drinks, alcoholic beverages (21 yrs. or older) are welcome. Some light refreshments will be available. Must be 18 years or older to attend. Lung Force Run/Walk, Lehigh Parkway Saturday April 30th from 6am- 12pm Calling all cheerleaders and artists alike! The Lung Force Run/Walk celebrates the collective power of our lungs. Rallying our friends, neighbors and colleagues to stand together, run and walk together, against lung disease and for lung health for all. If you know someone with lung cancer or breathing difficulties, this is the run/walk for you! If interested in helping at this event, volunteers are welcome to help in 3-6 hours shifts. Face painters and cheerleaders are especially needed. Please come in your best turquoise gear and help celebrate and support a worthy cause. ONGOING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES----- Stepping Stones Clubhouse, a psychiatric rehabilitation program in Coatesville, Pa is in need of volunteers to provide educational services to their members. Safe Harbor is in need of Volunteers! Safe Harbor is a non-profit organization that provides food, shelter, and help to homeless men and women. Each weekday, approximately 35-40 people are given meals. With this in mind, there is a lot of background work that goes on to help provide to the people in need. Volunteers are needed in all areas. As a volunteer, you have a variety of options. One can be a lunchtime volunteer, dinner server, dinner provider, shelter volunteer, Sunday morning volunteer, and Sunday Breakfast volunteer. All volunteers must be at least 12 years old and accompanied by an adult. No more than three volunteers per shift.
