These organizations design projects for the community and the youth on different areas, organizing and preparing the workcamp, taking into account the needs of the community and the educative value for the volunteers. The objectives of the workcamp are to excavate and help maintaining the archeological site and at the same time to learn and appreciate the richness of the natural environment. Location : Montgròs, el Brull Location Fundació Catalana de l'Esplai Nearest Airport : Barcelona CAT02 ARCHAEOLOGY IN GARRAF 01/07/2015 to 15/07/2015 Begues ARCH 21 vols 18-29 This is an archeological project that will take place in the Cave Can Sadurní in the town of Begues. Volunteers will work in the excavations of various sectors in the cave of Can Sadurní. They will have the opportunity to discover other excavations and the beautiful region of Garraf. Partner organization: Fundació Catalana de l'Esplai Work The general objectives of the workcamp include learning the main techniques of archaeological excavation, raise the awareness about the importance of excavations, to analyze, interpret and define hypothesis concerning the prehistory and history. Work During the workcamp, the volunteers will: - Excave and extract activities, exploring different sectors of Can Sadurní cave, and prepare the excavation of the main entrance to the cave. - Participate in drawing stratigraphic sections and writing data of the pieces found, recover some heritage elements of dry stone from the surroundings of Mas Can Sadurní. - Carry out the washing, classification and inventory related to the archaeological material (pottery, metal, animals) found during the excavation. - Start the construction of a neolithical cabin located in the outside terrace of the cave. -Contribute to the maintenance of the surroundings and different access of the cave. There will be an opportunity to visit the region and appreciate the most of its rich culture: overnight excursion to Garraf Natural Park, Trip to Barcelona (one-day visit), theatre play open to the entire population of Begues (the last evening the play will be done to represent the historical aspects of the cave from the findings), farewell party with technical team and mayors, rehearsal with “castellers” (one of the tipical traditions in Catalonia). Furthermore the camp will take place at the same time as Begues festivities, so the volunteers will actively participate doing a workshop with the drummers of the village Location : Begues Nearest Airport : El Prat, Barcelona CAT03 VALLFAROSA TOWER, LET'S DISCOVER MEDIEVAL AREA THROUGH UNIQUEREBUILDING & TEATHER 05/07/2015 to 19/07/2015 Torà CULT, ENVI 13 vols 18-29 This international workcamp is an opportunity to perform tasks to improve the environment and cultural heritage of the area. At the same time, the camp aims to promote creativity and tools to the participants through the Theater. Partner organization: CRUC, Coordinació Rural de Catalunya Work The work will be divided in two big parts. In one hand, there is the environmentalWork and cultural renovation of the surrounds of Valferrosa Tower. This work will be focused on the maintenance of the Medieval graveyard. The second part is focused on theatre and learning different techniques. The volunteers will prepare a play for the kids of the village and a theatrical visit to the Tower of Vallfarosa in English, which is open to visitors. Location : Torà, La Segarra Nearest Airport : Barcelona CAT 04 MONTSORIU CASTLE 07/07/2015 to 21/07/2015 Arbúcies ARCH 21 vols 18-29 The workcamp consist on two different experiences: in one hand there is the technical work and its main objectives are: team work, respect to cultural and historic heritage and the recovery of the materials found during excavations. This work is coordinated by the Archeological team of the Ethnological museum from Montseny, la Gabella. On the other hand there is the rest of the day with activities and leisure time that seeks a peaceful coexistence with the participants and organizers. It is very important the group cohesion, respect and having an active attitude during the activities and the daily tasks. On weekends, the camp is moved to Arbúcies village, and there a is one-day excursion to the coast. Partner organization: Consell de Joves d’Arbúcies Work This year we celebrate the XXII I edition of this workcamp. The technical work will be done every day from Work Monday to Friday during mornings, it will be focused on the following main aspects: cleaning the excavation area, archaeological excavation and cleaning and signing of the archaeological materials found during the workcamp. There will be also some complementary activities to achieve the contextualization of the site both geographically and chronologically. The purpose of these activities is to acquire new basic knowledge about archaeology and history. The activities will be related to archaeology and medieval age: conferences, workshops etc… Accommodation During the week the accommodation will take place in the castle, in a room with bunk Accomodation beds. Portable WC and showers (no hot water), a dining room tent and a kitchen will be installed outside the castle. On the weekends, accommodation is located in a space provided by the municipality. It is in a municipal sports center, without beds, so the participants have to bring sleeping bags and sleeping paths. Free time activities Camp leaders propose leisure activities in the afternoons and evenings and they are always open to volunteer’s proposals to different and new activities. Activities can be relaxing, role-playing, guidance, workshops, history, cultural exchange, gastronomy, astronomy, etc. Two trips are planned: One to the village of Breda and another to Tossa. There is no hot water (the showers are cold water only)! The castle is situated on an isolated hill, 12 km from the village of Arbúcies. On weekends participants will go to Arbúcies. Nearest Airport : Girona or Barcelona CAT05 INTERNATIONAL TRADITIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL OF CANTONIGROS 09/07/2015 to 23/07/2015 Vic FEST 21 vols 18-29 The purpose of this workcamp is that the participants become involved in the technical organization of the festival and discover the catalan popular culture from the shared experiences between the volunteers, the organizers of the festival and the participants. The Festival is organized by the "Associació Festival Internacional de Música de Cantonigròs", which organizes this festival since 1983 with the support of public institutions. In this festival the participants are bands, choral groups and folk dancers and it is now part of "European Festivals Association." Partner organization: Fundació Escolta Josep Carol Work Work Volunteers will work before, during and after the festival. The technical tasks are: Assembly and dismantling the structures, facilities and area of the festival; Organization support for the festival’s services (shop, kitchen, etc.); Support in logistics; Controlling the access to the events during the festival. Location : Vic Nearest Airport : Barcelona or Girona CAT06 RECOVERY OF THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL HERITAGE 12/07/2015 to 26/07/2015 Peramola ARCH 13 vols 18-29 In the town of Peramola there are about 15 prehistoric sites and it's important to reclaim the prehistoric archaeological heritage. The workcamp is part of a long-term project, with the support of the City of Peramola, teachers of the UPC and the UAB and the Regional Council of Alt Urgell. This year it is the fourth edition of the camp, and the main activities will be a continuation of the work started last year. Apart from the technical tasks, young people will discover and enjoy community life through workshops and activities in the afternoon and evening. The village of Peramola has a population of 300 inhabitants. An international project involving young people can be very positive, both to the participants (to experience living in rural areas) and to local people (to interact with youth from all around the world). Partner organization: CRUC, Coordinació Rural de Catalunya It will be divided in three parts: Work Work Surveying and mapping the sites using a GPS, maps, and other instruments. Archaeological work. Working on videos and pictures exhibition: the participants will take some pictures and materials from the site to prepare an exhibition for the villagers. They will also create a video to show their workcamp experience. The volunteers will prepare some activities for the kids that are doing a summer camp at Peramola. One of the activities will be to record and perform tales in English from the different countries. This material will be used for future activities. The main objective of the workcamp is to restore and recover the natural surroundings of Boella’s torrent (la Riera). There will be also workshops focused on learning how to re-use the canes extracted. Partner organization: LA CANONJA 3 Looking for a campleader! Requirements: -Experience on workcamps as participant or campleader Work Elimination of the vegetation which is invading the torrent area; reforestation of the Work riparian environment; residues removal; adequacy of banks and slopes; arrangement of access to the torrent’s area and its signaling; collaboration in the archaeological actions developed in the torrent’s area. There will be also workshops focused on learning how to re-use the canes extracted. Location : La Canonja (Tarragona) Nearest Airport : Barcelona CAT08 THE MISTERY OF CAPOLAT CASTLE 02/08/2015 to 16/08/2015 Capolat ARCH 21 vols 18-29 The Sanctuary of Mare de deu dels Tossals, was built on modern age, on the ruins of a castle. It is known because documented references have been found. The workcamp aims to determinate the existence, location and boundaries of the Capolat Castle. Partner organization: Fundació Escola Josep Carol Work The technical work will consist on: cleaning vegetation in order to delimit the working Work area, excavation of a part of the site to continue with the work done until the moment, study of the materials found, learning how to interpret the work that is being done, to leave the area ready for visitors and for its preservation. Location : Capolat, Berguedà Nearest Airport : Barcelona CAT09 ST ISCLE CASTLE, LOOKING FOR A PAST 02/08/2015 to 16/08/2015 Vidreres ARCH 21 vols 18-29 St. Iscle Castle is situated in Vidreres, a town of the XII century. The castle is an historical patrimony of big importance in Catalonia that for many years was degraded and abandoned. Two weeks to learn and share experiences with people from different countries around the world, gain archeological and cultural knowledge, get to know the natural environment surround and respect it, participate in free time activities, and much more! Partner organization: Grup d'Esplai Vidrerenc Work The technical work of the project "The castle and the chapel of St. Iscle" consists on Work archaeological excavation, its restoration and rehabilitation and its subsequent management and public dissemination; recovery from the daily work of the various rooms and items that make up the fortress castle of St. Iscle, to later make possible its restoration. Participants will be provided with the necessary tools and our archaeologists will explain the basic techniques about restoration of the ruins. The technical work will be during mornings from Monday to Sunday. Accommodation Accomodation At the Salvador Espriu School. The accommodation is held in the gym floor that will be equipped with mattresses and cabinets for all participants. Sleeping bags are needed. Location : Vidreres Nearest Airport : Girona or Barcelona CAT10 GET INVOLVED IN CULTURAL HERITAGE IN VALL DE BOI 03/08/2015 to 17/08/2015 Llesp ENVI. 21 VOLS. 18-29 All the different tasks carried out during the workcamp are addressed to leave a footprint on the small village of Llesp. Llesp is located in the Vall de Boí, It’s a natural and wonderful environment with lots of small places to discover. This valley has been declared World Heritage. The activities programmed are focused on two different areas: Technical work on the surroundings of Llesp Leisure and cultural activities to discover the place and the Valley. The main objective is to provide a continued learning about natural and personal aspects. Nearest Airport : Barcelona CAT11 FIGUERES CASTLE: THE BIGGEST MILITARY FORTIFICATION IN EUROPE 16/08/2015 to 30/08/2015 Figueres ARCH/RENO 21 vols 18-29 The workcamp aims to restore the historic and natural heritage of the St. Ferran Castle and its surroundings, and increase the knowledge and relevance of such heritage among participants and local people. Partner organization: Centre Excursionista Empordanès Work Work Recovery of the foundations; Elimination of the irrigation canals; Clearing and cleaning of various moats; Reparation of the paths surrounding the moats; Cleaning and adjusting the tunnels of mines; The work will be in the mornings. Location : Castell de Sant Ferran – Figueres Nearest Airport : Girona CAT12 THE IBERIAN CITADEL OF CALAFELL 17/08/2015 to 31/08/2015 Calafell ARCH 21 vols 18-29 Ciutadella Ibèrica de Calafell (Calafell Citadel) is an archaeological site which shows how the life of a community of the Iron Age was. During the year 2007-2008, the site has been closed to the public in order to reformulate a new museum project based on experimental archeology. This new project aims to place the archaeological site as a point of reference in the European framework of this kind of outdoor museum and at the same time aims to make the Ciutadella a pioneer in the experimental investigation of the Iberian world. The volunteers of the workcamp will learn about Iberian history, architecture and antique ways of building with earth. Partner organization: Fundació Pere Tarrés Work Work This year the technical work will be focused on creating different objects that were used in the Iberian daily life.
